Pretty Much Every Legal Expert Agrees Trump Will Probably Be in Jail by Thanksgiving

In case you haven’t noticed, Donald Trump has a hell of a time keeping his mouth shut. If he’s breathing he’s kvetching. And he’s digging himself a great big hole because he just never knows when to shut up.

Queerty reports there’s a good chance Trump could be locked up before any of his 91 criminal indictments are heard in court. That’s according to several well-respected attorneys, including one of Trump’s very own former White House lawyers and a former U.S. attorney general.

Trump’s vociferousness has caused Judge Tanya Chutkan, who’s presiding over the case in which Trump is accused of attempting to overturn the 2020 election, to reimpose a gag order limiting what ol’ blabbermouth can say about witnesses and prosecutors in the case. Chutkan originally put the gag order on hold on October 20 as Trump’s attorneys pursued an appeal.

The disgraced former president has a huge habit of disparaging prosecutors and witnesses connected to his sizable legal entanglements. Special Counsel Jack Smith argued it was time to reinstate the gag order because while it was on hold, Trump lit into him three times by name in less than 10 days.

He’s also made comments over two separate occasions about Mark Meadows, his former chief of staff. Meadows was granted immunity to testify under oath.

In an interview with CNN last Thursday, Ty Cobb, Trump’s former White House special counsel, said he doesn’t believe fines will stop Trump from disparaging people involved in the case.

Instead, he may have to do a stint in the pokey.

”I think she’ll come in with a much heavier penalty, and ultimately I think he’ll spend a night or weekend in jail,” Cobb said. “I think it’s gonna take that to stop him.”

So many of us have been waiting for years to see Trump do jail time. There is, however, some doubt about whether he would serve jail time if he’s found guilty in any of his four criminal cases, due to security concerns connected to imprisoning a former president. Some experts believe home confinement is more likely.

We are, however, living in strange times. Trump is running for president and serving as a defendant in a federal espionage case and criminal case regarding his alleged attempts to overthrow the 2020 election simultaneously.

As we’ve already seen, Trump’s not going to stop his extremely overt judicial misconduct based on verbal slaps on the wrist. He’s also been fined $15,000 for disparaging a law clerk who is working on his $250 million fraud trial, so obviously hitting him in the wallet isn’t going to do it either.

“Make no mistake: future violations, whether intentional or unintentional, will subject the violator to far more severe sanctions, which may include steeper financial penalties, holding Donald Trump in contempt of court, and possibly imprisoning him,” said Judge Arthur Engoron.

Well, the first two have been tried, so perhaps it’s time for that stint in jail.

George Conway, Kellyanne Conway’s ex-husband also said in a recent interview that Trump “could go to jail” if he continues to publicly smear court officials.

“The fines can get bigger and bigger,” he noted. “One method that has been used by courts in the past to enforce criminal contempt sanctions or civil contempt sanctions is to keep increasing the fines geometrically. You know, 1,000, 10,000, 100,000. Justice Engoron could keep ramping those figures up.”

But here’s my favorite part about this whole shmear: Engoron has, of course, found Trump liable for fraud and could force him to auction off his New York properties. I love that.

This has the potential of hitting the ex-president very hard.

The only thing that would be worse would be going to jail.

Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said something that many of us probably already know: If Trump were an ordinary person, he’d likely be facing jail for his continual violations of gag orders.

So yeah, the two-tiered justice system really is a thing here.

“Would a judge actually do that, which would happen to a normal person and put somebody in jail for violating a gag order? I suspect that’s not likely to happen with this defendant, but any other defendant would probably be facing [jail time],” Holder said.

But at least while Trump is melting down, he’s committing silly gaffes, one right after another. If anyone needs a medical and psychiatric workup, it’s the former liar-in-chief.

And then there’s this serious gaffe, which sure makes it look like he really does need help:

But despite this, and despite all his legal problems, he’s still the Republican front-runner in the polls. Go figure.
