Any time there’s a change in Donald Trump’s physical appearance, the rumor mill starts turning. If there’s a makeup misfire (and there are many), if he’s having a bad hair — or, as I like to call it — an almost no hair day, people start gossiping. His hands have also received their share of attention, because, of course, they are small, and that has led some to speculate on some of his other parts that I’d prefer to never, ever think about. But recently, his right hand has sported several odd-looking red spots and of course, folks have thoughts.

Wednesday, during a photo opportunity, Trump joked that “Maybe it’s AI” referring to his hand’s appearance.

Trump sounded a bit befuddled when Fox News’ Mark Meredith asked, “How’s your hands?” The former president held both hands up to show they were clean and, according to Newsweek, fielded questions from the press after meeting with bigwigs and members from the Teamsters union in Washington, D.C.

Trump is up to his neck in publicity as the front-runner for the GOP in the 2024 presidential race and of course thanks to his multiple criminal and civil trials. He’s in the media everywhere, all the time, whether you want him there or not. He was leaving Trump Tower in Manhattan to appear at the second defamation trial involving author E. Jean Carroll when the photo of his red-spotted hand was taken earlier in the month.

So when Meredith asked the ex-president if he saw the photo, which showed the red marks on his hand, he responded, “No. What was wrong with it?”

“You don’t want to tell us what happened with the hands?” Meredith pushed. Trump’s reply? “Nothing. Maybe it’s AI.”

The exchange between Trump and Meredith aired on Fox News’ America Reports, and this led to speculation of course, with co-host Sandra Smith saying “Remarkable that he didn’t even know about all the speculation and coverage of those hands.”

Left-wing X account Patriot Takes also took notice of the photo and posted: “No bandage, just open wounds. How is Trump going to ‘make America great again’ when he can’t even take care of his own hand?”

Some social media users speculated that Trump could have early-stage leprosy or perhaps open wounds from a fall.

We can expect further speculation until something else changes about Trump’s appearance and then the gossip will begin anew. We may never find out what’s wrong with the afflicted hand. Who knows if it’s anything medically significant? I’m willing to bet people will forget about this the next time controversy is stirred up over Trump’s appearance or the next time he has a conniption fit on Truth Social.

It’s the way of Trump’s world.
