‘He’s Worse Than Ever, Petty and Cruel’: Lincoln Project Releases Video So Disturbing it Will Shake You to Your Core

Okay, most of us know terrible things happened when Donald Trump was president. He became an embarrassment on the world stage and earned plenty of enmity from world leaders, except for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who probably views Trump as a useful idiot. But for those who may have forgotten just how awful Trump was as president, the Lincoln Project has dropped a new ad that bluntly reminds us about the many ways this man failed us.

The minute-long video “What Could Be” warns voters not to re-elect this divisive commander-in-chief who “almost broke us apart,” Florida Politics reports.

“Have so many already forgotten what the Trump years were — chaos, corruption, ugliness, cruelty, violence, a wrecked economy, and over half a million dead Americans? That’s the past that Trump’s presidency brought, and it would be our future, too,” a voice-over in the video intones.

“He’s worse than ever — unstable and angry, petty and cruel, promising dictatorship and retribution, assuring his legion of unhinged fanatics that he is their instrument of vengeance. He’s not even hiding it, and not one American can hide from it.”

The ad reminds us of several shocking events that happened while Trump was president. We hear once again about the racist and deadly 2017 protest in Charlottesville, the teargassing of peaceful protesters outside the White House, migrants detained in cages, massive numbers of Americans dying during the COVID-19 pandemic, and of course, the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The Lincoln Project has indeed been busy and follows several ads the group has recently released, including one comparing Trump’s plans for the U.S. to Adolph Hitler’s vision for Germany. The group also dropped an ad highlighting the sexual assault and defamation charges Trump is now dealing with and followed that up with a third ad comparing support for Trump to religious fanaticism.

For Lincoln Project Communications Director Greg Minchak, “What Could Be” is all about the choices voters face this fall.

“(It’s) a choice between repeating the chaotic past with a new focus on vengeance, versus a hopeful future led by President (Joe) Biden,” Minchak said. “The choice is stark.”

Indeed. I hope voters will remember this as they head to the polls. Trump did so many awful things as president that it’s hard to choose the worst thing he did. But for me, it’s that he stalled so much when COVID was ravaging people. He proposed dumb and harmful cures and stalled on getting vaccines underway as he mollycoddled his supporters.

We really must do everything we can to keep this evil man out of office.
