Lara Trump often makes jaw-dropping statements. We’re kind of used to that from her and her lips by now. But now, the newly elected co-chair of the RNC just said something that we’d have to be stupidly gullible to believe. She actually said people can “trust her with their money because she’s a Trump.”

Queerty notes that she’s leaping right into her new role as a fundraiser.

Talking to NBC, Trump assured possible donors that the money they donate won’t all go toward her father-in-law’s legal costs. Well, that’s a relief now, isn’t it? Donors purportedly won’t have to subsidize a man who got himself in trouble all on his own. A man who promises to go all Robocop on crime if he’s elected. There’s no hypocrisy in that, is there? But aw shucks, you don’t have to pay any attention to that according to Lara Trump.

“I’m here to assure people who ever had any question as to how their money is being spent…Trust me, I’m the daughter-in-law of Donald Trump. I will ensure that every penny of every dollar is going to causes that Republican voters care about,” she said.

“We, of course, want to elect Donald Trump at the top of the ticket,” she explained. “And then of course elect Republicans all the way down.”

Of course, those “causes that Republican voters care about” could cover many issues, and Trump might decide this includes keeping him out of the slammer. He’s facing a Trump Towers’ worth of legal penalties. He owes over half a billion. Including defamation costs to E. Jean Carroll amounting to roughly $83 million. There’s also the $464 million (and possibly more) in his Manhattan business fraud case. For which he has yet to pay anything and is currently appealing both rulings.
