Looks Like Trump Can’t Find a Way to Entice Melania to Join Him on the Campaign Trail

With Election Day seven months away, there is renewed speculation over what Melania Trump’s role will be in her husband, Donald Trump’s reelection effort. That speculation is a waste of time. I can already tell you that Melania’s role won’t be up to much. She was practically invisible during his 2020 campaign, making an appearance every once in a while, but that was about it. I highly doubt the situation will change this time around.

But folks in the Trump campaign haven’t seemed to figure this out. They want to keep believing the impossible. And the delusion is thick this time around.

“She’ll definitely have a role, but in terms of what that is, I don’t know,” said one source close to the Trump campaign. “It is her decision on how much or how little she will be campaigning.”

Sources close to the campaign told CNN that for the time being there’s no indication of Melania playing any part in her husband’s attempts to be reelected, but they also say that the former first lady could decide to hit the trail of her own accord.

“She is very selective and methodical in what she wants to do and how she presents herself,” said one source close to former President Donald Trump. “She is very decisive with these things and knows they have a lot of intended and unintended consequences.”

More speculation was stirred up when she failed to appear on Super Tuesday, which turned out to be one of the biggest nights of her husband’s campaign. She also didn’t show up at the campaign’s victory event at Mar-a-Lago.

I fail to understand why there’s so much discussion about Melania’s whereabouts. She’s doing what she typically does. Melania has always been private, reserved, and her own person. Perhaps some of these “sources” ought to focus on the more important aspects of a possible Trump presidency. Maybe some of the saner ones in this group can tame the Trump monster and bring about some changes to some of his crazier ideas. No one’s been able to so far.

I guess it’s easier to waste time wondering about Melania’s whereabouts and to listen without question to her husband’s boasting, as he did on the evening of his victory event.

“This was an amazing night, an amazing day – it’s been an incredible period of time in our country’s history,” Donald Trump said during his speech that night. He later thanked his family. Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump for attending.

After Trump kicked off his campaign in November 2022, Melania appeared in public to support him exactly twice — on the day he announced his presidential intentions and last week when she accompanied him to vote in the Florida presidential primary. Here, she stood next to her husband as he talked to reporters. At one point, someone asked her when she would start campaigning for her husband.

“Stay tuned,” she said, smiling.

I have to ask, who really cares whether she shows up or not? I know this is of importance to her husband’s lapdog supporters, who unquestioningly follow his every word without realizing they are helping to destroy what little democracy is left in this country.

As for the media, I suppose it’s easier to focus on Melania’s whereabouts than to ask the hard questions. It’s easier to do this than to ask how he’s going to tackle the border situation without the obvious racism he always displays. How he’s going to handle all his ongoing legal problems with grace (which he will never do). How he’s going to add ethical people to his Cabinet (he’s not going to do that either). How he’s going to handle Palestine, Ukraine, and Russia.

But by all means, let’s speculate endlessly on what Melania’s up to. It’s easier that way.
