Donald Trump can’t stand to be one-upped. I think most of us have figured that out by now. But right now, he’s throwing hot coals in Liz Cheney’s direction after she responded to one of his Truth Social posts with a scathing post of her own, on X.

Trump was in complain mode again on his social media platform Sunday morning, writing that Cheney “should go to Jail along with the rest of the Unselect Committee!” He commented while sharing an article about the committee, according to Mediaite. Then he went on to accuse them of having “withheld crucial evidence” by not sharing testimony from a Secret Service driver with the public. The driver, as yet unnamed contradicted the account of former White House staffer Cassidy Hutchinson. She had claimed that while he was being driven back to the White House on January 6, Trump attempted to grab the steering wheel of the limo to redirect it to the Capitol.

The committee has faced criticism from some right-wingers for keeping the testimony under wraps during its investigation. Committee members have responded that they had a deal with the Secret Service in which they agreed not to disclose “privacy information, for-official-use-only information, intelligence, and law enforcement sensitive records and raw intelligence information” from 12 interviews they conducted.

Cheney responded to Trump’s call for her to be jailed in a feisty post on X.

“Hi Donald: you know these are lies,” she said. “You have had all the grand jury & J6 transcripts for many months. You’re trying to halt your 1/6 trial because your VP, WH counsel, WH aides, campaign & DOJ officials etc will testify against you. You’re afraid of the truth and you should be.”

And of course, Trump being Trump, them’s fightin’ words.

“SHE SHOULD BE PROSECUTED FOR WHAT SHE HAS DONE TO OUR COUNTRY!” Trump wrote. “SHE ILLEGALLY DESTROYED THE EVIDENCE. UNREAL!!!”

But again, Cheney wasn’t going to let him get away with more lies, so she hit him again:

Trump never has been able to handle the truth, so why would he start now? If he gets elected, you can expect him to renew calls for Cheney, Hillary Clinton, and whoever else is in his crosshairs to be arrested.
