Former Trump Aide and Major Conservative Says She’s Voting for Biden, ‘I’m Supporting the Person Able to Beat Trump’

At least coming to your senses is better than having no sense.

Sarah Matthews, the former Deputy Press Secretary for Donald Trump, just did a blockbuster interview, where she absolutely threw him under the bus.

Her rapid-fire attack on His Orangeness was like shotgun shells hitting the floor on Jen Psaki’s show, after Psaki showed a litany of clips with fellow Republicans who had previously lambasted the former president, then endorsed his candidacy.

That kind of hypocrisy isn’t new to the GOP — and even the Democrats are sometimes guilty of it, as evidenced by Kamala basically calling Joe a racist to his face, and then being his VP.

But Matthews isn’t having it.

PSAKI: What goes through your head when you see people who clearly know better defending Trump, as they just did?

MATTHEWS: It’s really frustrating because, as you noted, some of the things they’ve said publicly about Donald Trump are horrible and then they’re going on and endorsing him. So, I can only imagine the things they say privately. I’ve talked with a lot of Republicans, high up elected officials and things like that, who will bash him privately, but many of them will not even say it publicly.

Indeed, plenty of Republicans are on record trashing Trump at times, and cozying up to him at others. Remember when Lindsey Graham tweeted this gem?

Since then, he’s gone on to practically worship Trump.

Reflecting on Trump’s actions (and indictments) since the last election, Matthews had this to say:

“And a lot of times what they often say is that they’re supporting him because of the policies, that they want the conservative agenda. And where I get frustrated is that they’re treating this like it’s a normal election, a normal Republican candidate, and a normal Democratic candidate. Well, this couldn’t be anything further from the case.

With Donald Trump, you have a candidate who tried to overturn the last election, who spread conspiracy theories because he couldn’t accept the fact that lost the last election. And then those theories helped inspire an insurrection on our nation’s Capitol.

And to this day, Donald Trump refuses to admit that he lost that election and has not shown any remorse for what happened on January 6th. So, of course, I would love for us to be having a debate of policy ideas in the 2024 action. But, when we have a candidate on the ballot who will not uphold the Constitution, then I feel like I have put policy aside and I want to support the person who is best suited to defeat Donald Trump.”

That’s really what it comes down to. We have evangelical voters supporting an adjudicated rapist. We have fiscal conservatives supporting a man who bankrupted CASINOS. We have long-term, mainstream Republicans supporting someone who was pro-choice and anti-gun about two minutes before he decided he’d run in that party.

Do with it what you will, but I think Sarah Matthews hit the nail on the head.
