2024 Election

Trump Is Raging and Panicking Because Aileen Cannon Might Get Booted From His Case

Donald Trump is not happy that people are criticizing his favorite judge, Aileen Cannon. He loves her because she (almost) always rules in his favor. This is typically how Trump reacts whenever people do his bidding and he’s upset that some people are “disrespecting” her.

“Crooked Joe Biden and his crew of Hacks and Thugs, led by Merrick Garland and Deranged Jack Smith, are working overtime to try to illegally intimidate and harass respected Federal Judge Aileen Cannon,” Trump wrote in a post on TruthSocial. “They are calling her terrible names, wrongfully threatening her with Impeachment, and disrespecting her, all because they want her to act like the dishonest, politically biased, and conflicted Judges in New York, and not like the fair and impartial Judge that she is.”

Then he continued, “These Persecutors are using Third World tactics in a corrupt ploy to “play the ref.” However, no matter how hard he tries, Deranged Jack Smith will never be Coach Bobby Knight, a Basketball Legend for all time, who led the last undefeated team in College Basketball. Coach Knight would always “play the refs,” but not to change the last call, to change the next one. The Weaponization of Law Enforcement, the Harassment of Fair Judges, and rampant Election Interference cannot be allowed to continue. We have to end the Witch Hunts, win the most important Election in our History on November 5th, and Make America Great Again!”

Trump’s post comes during disputes between Special Counsel Jack Smith and Judge Cannon, who is presiding over Trump’s case in Florida where he is accused of allegedly mishandling classified documents, Newsweek reports. The former president has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. The likely Republican nominee in the 2024 presidential race contends that he hasn’t done anything wrong and claims the documents he kept were personal.

Of course, the rest of us know she is neither fair nor impartial when it comes to her favorite former president. Sometimes she acts as if it’s her job to do him favors. We know that she’s shown favorability towards him numerous times, including last month when she filed an order requesting the prosecution and defense to provide possible instructions for the jury stemming from the charges against Trump. In her instructions to the jury, she appeared to suggest jurors are permitted to consider the classified documents to be Trump’s personal items, according to the Presidential Records Act.

Smith, in response, filed a fiery rebuke against the order saying they “rest on an unstated and fundamentally flawed legal premise.”

“Both scenarios rest on an unstated and fundamentally flawed legal premise—namely, that the Presidential Records Act and in particular its distinction between ‘personal’ and ‘Presidential’ records, determines whether a former President is ‘authorized,’ under the Espionage Act, to possess highly classified documents and store them in an unsecure facility,” Smith’s office said.

As the disputes continue, some legal experts are suggesting Smith could call for Cannon’s recusal from the case. I’m no legal expert but this sounds like a plan to me. And Elie Honig, a legal commentator and attorney, in an interview on CNN’s News Central last week was asked if Smith could motion for Cannon to be removed. He noted it’s “possible,” but would be “extraordinarily rare.”

“There is a procedure for this, and it can happen sometimes, where prosecutors will ask the judge or will ask an appeals court to remove a federal judge from a case,” Honig responded. “First of all, it’s a pretty precipitous move; second of all, if you lose, you have a kind of awkward scenario where you’ve asked the judge to be kicked off.”

I hope Smith does call for Cannon’s recusal. She is obviously favoring Trump and this case needs a judge who is rational and unbiased. That’s not how Cannon rolls. Trump purportedly kept documents that could pose threats to national security in the U.S. and she’s acting like this is no big deal when it very obviously is.

She needs to go. Period.
