It/s not the first time he’s done it, and we can be sure it won’t be the last. Trump once again publicly looked like an idiot by mixing up two completely different people during a rally.

Over the weekend, Trump held a rally in Minnesota, the home state of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. Omar is the first Somali-American ever elected to Congress and the very first female person of color ever to represent the state she became a naturalized citizen in.

She’s also a member of “The Squad,” an unofficial delegation of progressives inside the Democratic Party who find themselves further to the left than mainstream Democrats. Also numbered among the Squad are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Presley, Cori Bush, Jamaal Bowman, and even more new members since the last midterm election.

But being in The Squad and sharing politics is about the only thing that makes one like the others in that group. None of them look alike, sound alike, or even come from the same states.

No matter to Trump.

Trying to use Omar in her home state as an anecdote about a “crazy woman” fell flat, not leastwise because the anecdote Trump tried to tell was about Rashida Tlaib, from nearby Michigan.

In Detroit in 2016, Tlaib heckled Trump from the audience at a campaign stop, and was escorted out by his security. She would later recall, “I told Trump that ‘our children deserve better’ and I asked him to provide a better example to our kids. I implored him to read the U.S. Constitution. And then I was grabbed by several security personnel who physically moved me to the exit while I continued to express my concerns.”

Trump had Tlaib in his head while trying to reference Omar, saying to the crowd, “Ilhan Omar, she went to a speech when I was running, when I was first running… this lunatic was in the audience, she started screaming. I said, ‘Who the hell is that?’ and it’s the same crazy person that I watch every night, she’s nuts.”

Oooh, you got SO close, Donnie. Yes, they’re both women. Neither is white. Heck, they share a religion. And that’s where it falls apart.

As Omar (the actual Ilhan Omar) once said, “Not only is he a racist, but he’s a racist xenophobic. Because he’s not against immigration, he’s just against immigrants who look like me.”

Trump telling dangerous anti-Muslim lies is nothing new. But I have never attended one of his speeches. He is lying again or losing his memory.

Well, Ilhan, apparently they don’t even have to look a lot like you for him to be hateful toward women, period.
