Trump Humiliated By Savannah Mayor Over Georgia Rally Crowd Size, Stuck Using Small Theater Because He Couldn’t Fill Large Arena
Okay, this is hilarious.
Donald Trump’s obsession with crowd size rears its ugly head again, this time in Savannah, Georgia. After throngs of angry MAGA supporters gathered around the Johnny Mercer Civic Center complained to local reporters about the fact that Trump wasn’t in a bigger venue, the Mayor of the city weighed in.
There was nothing the city could do, you see, about the folks who couldn’t get in to see their dear leader. Trump just didn’t plan ahead for a larger crowd, presumably because he’s been having such a hard time filling seats.
Local news station WTOC spoke to Savannah Mayor Van Johnson, who responded to constituents’ concerns that Trump wasn’t allowed to be in a bigger venue:
“Absolute nonsense. The City of Savannah is not involved in these matters at all beyond first responder and emergency management services. The Oak View Group manages the Enmarket Arena as a business enterprise and if the Trump campaign wanted to pay for it, they could have certainly used it. The Trump campaign selected the venue that they felt confident they could fill and apparently, the 2,565 seat venue at the Johnny Mercer Theater was more reasonable and easier to fill for them than the 9,500 seats in the Enmarket Arena.”

This comes on the heels of a rally in Las Vegas during which Trump employed curtains to reduce the appearance of size so it would look more full. He later accused Kamala Harris of doing that very thing, but thus far, she has not had to during her campaign.
After that, Trump watched helplessly as people poured up the stairs and out of a rally in Michigan. At that same rally, Trump insisted that nobody leaves during his rallies, that everyone always stays until the end. That was in response to Kamala’s jab at him during the debate two weeks ago, when she brought up the topic of people leaving out of frustration and boredom.
This time, however, Trump thought he was keeping the crowd from making him look foolish for overestimating their size. Instead, he booked the equivalent of a small symphony hall. It, of course, was filled to the brim because it only seats a little over 2,500 people.
The City of Savannah also responded to WTOC’s request for comment and said largely the same thing. City Press Secretary Josh Peacock told the station:
“EnMarket Arena and Johnny Mercer are managed by a third party, Oak View Group (OVG). Political campaigns work through OVG to book the venues. Although both are City property, the Mayor and City staff have no involvement in booking political rallies at either venue.”
So there it is, before he gets a chance to brag about his full crowd or complain that he wasn’t allowed a bigger space.
