Melania Trump Tries to Jab Michelle Obama Over Inauguration Snub as Michelle Skips Inauguration

I don't know if it's a language barrier or what.

Some days when I write about Melania Trump, I end up feeling kind of bad. Usually I don’t mind, since I honestly believe that she’s self-serving and has no interest in the welfare of Americans. But sometimes I’m overwhelmed by the sense that I’m making fun of someone who just doesn’t know any better than to sound like an idiot.

Mel’s latest foray into trying to be a normal human comes by way of an interview with right-wing bobblehead Ainsley Earhardt from Fox & Friends. The interview was broadcast shortly after Michelle Obama’s spokespeople confirmed that she would not be attending Donald Trump’s second inauguration for, um, reasons.

Anyway, Melania was, as usual, looking for something negative to say about Michelle. She’s never gotten over that awkward one-sided gift exchange from her hubby’s first inauguration. Ainsley asked her about the difference between this White House move-in and the first one, and Melania fired up the almost English she’s been not working on for the 30 years she’s been here.

“The difference is I know where I will be going, I know the rooms where we will be living. I know the process,” the incoming First Lady said. “The first time was challenging, we didn’t have much of the information.” Huh? What does she mean, they didn’t have the information? Melania herself had tea with Michelle Obama and toured the entire White House two days after Donald won the election.

“The information was upheld for us from previous administration. It’s very different transition second time around,” Melania said. Translated, that means the “information was WITHHELD FROM us BY THE previous administration.”

Mel dodged the obvious next question of whether or not the Bidens were being nice about the transition this time around, saying only “They’re still living there and will be out on January 20. The transition team has only five hours to move [the] Bidens out [and] to move us in.”

I guess the news that Michelle would be skipping the January 20 spectacle didn’t jog Melania’s memory that both she and her husband skipped Joe Biden’s inauguration. Regardless, a source close to the Obamas told People magazine that “She’s not one to plaster on a pleasant face and pretend for protocol’s sake. Michelle doesn’t do anything because it’s expected or it’s protocol or it’s tradition.”

That seems like decent policy to me. Melania’s just going to have to live with it.
