The Trump Regret is at All-New High: Trump Supporters Admit They ‘Made a Mistake’ After Being Hit by DOGE Cuts

This is not going away.

All across the internet, from Reddit to Facebook to X to Instagram, we’ve seen American conservatives who voted for Trump expressing their deep dissatisfaction with their choice.

As always, it’s hard to have a lot of sympathy for these folks, since Trump is not subtle. Most if not all of what Trump has done so far — specifically the things they’re complaining about — were things he telegraphed during the campaign.

Budget cuts, firings, deportations, tariffs, and an outright attack on everyone who’s not a straight, white Christian male were the meat and potatoes of Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign. It could be said that it was and even more ultra-right platform than 2016. And this time around, he has the experience of having been in the White House before, and the infrastructure of having weeded out a team of aides that are anything but fiercely loyal.

Plus, as some of the still-enthusiastic Trump supporters are fond of pointing out, everyone knew that Trump was going to come with Elon Musk, RFK Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, Kash Patel, and a host of other unsavory characters. Elon Musk says he thinks people were voting for him right alongside Trump, and mostly Trump’s vocal supporters are proving him right.

So in the ongoing saga of public expression of woes, it’s time to add TikTok to the list. The video-sharing platform favored by young people was slow to the party, largely because it’s mostly populated with a crowd that can’t or didn’t vote, or if they are old enough and registered, are mostly liberal leaning.

But every internet pond has fish of every stripe, and TikTok is no different. It’s just that it took a combination of platforms to start hearing them.

One conservative woman on TikTok expressed her dismay in a comment that was only amplified after someone took a screenshot of it and posted it to X:

You’ll note the difference in tone and content from the TikTok conservative: Admission of guilt before even the expression of anger and sadness. Not even an effort to excuse herself by saying she didn’t see it coming. Just a simple explanation that she didn’t understand that voting for Trump for the reasons that he ran on would lead to the outcomes it’s led to so far.

Would that we were all so contrite in our apologies.

And that’s what they owe America, really, is apologies. Because, and I’m just going off you know, everything here, Trump hasn’t done anything good yet. At least nothing that anyone but his most hateful supporters supports.

Even the Republicans in both chambers of Congress, save but a vocal few, are appalled at what he’s done up to this point, and only go along with it because Trump’s billionaire friend that spent nearly $300 million to buy the election for him is threatening to spend money to primary them with opponents that will be loyal to Trump.

But what’s the “insanity” she’s referring to? Well, here’s where I finally begin to feel a little sympathy. It has turned out that Trump still doesn’t have any political positions of his own. The absolute only thing he cares about is power and popularity.

He imposed tariffs, then rescinded the order. Then reinstated the order. Then, when the stock market tanked, rescinded it again. Voters knew that this isn’t trade policy, he’s just using tariffs as a bullying tactic.

He began mass deportations, then stopped in certain areas based on pleas from business owners. Voters came to understand that he doesn’t actually care about getting criminals out of the United States, it’s just a race thing. He underscored it by pardoning more than 1,500 people who attacked the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 — including actual Nazis in Nazi gear — many of whom have already gone on to commit crimes again.

He’s allowed Elon Musk to issue proclamations for federal employees to follow about having to defend what they do at their jobs, then contradicted him on whether those employees needed to do so or not. He’s stood idly by as Musk and his DOGE team have indiscriminately cut jobs, funding, and resources from places they had no business cutting, then had to look like an idiot as he begged fired or retired essential government employees to come back to work.

When Trump looks bad, his voters look bad. And at this point, he looks like an idiot who just does the first thing he’s told, the scrambles to clean up the mess when it turns out to have been a stupid thing to do.

His voters have been along for the ride the entire time:

To be clear, there are definitely still plenty of Trump voters who are proud of what they’ve wrought with their support for the sophomore president. But they’re getting fewer and further between, and most of them just sound pathetic:

That brings to mind the phrase “A special kind of stupid.”
