Trump Says He’d ‘Like to be the Next Pope’ and Claims He’s the ‘Number One Choice’

Donald Trump jokingly nominated himself to the be the next Pope as he chatted with reporters during his busy 100th day in office. While answering questions outside, tongue-in-cheek Trump said that he would like to be the new pontiff.

“As Pope?” the president responded to the question. “I’d like to be Pope. That would be my number one choice.”

After an awkward silence, Trump back tracked on his statement. “No, I don’t know, I have no preference. We have a cardinal that happens to be out of a place called New York who’s very good,” he said.

The wild comment from the president caused chaos in the comment section of the X post that posted the clip.

“That was quicker than I thought,” commented an X user.

“Does the pope usually have 6 children with 3 different women? Lol,” another wrote in the comments.

“Isn’t he already considered the pope of white evangelicals?” commented an X user.

“In Psychology, we term this disorder as Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD),” another wrote in the comments.

“Trump would bring back pedophilia to the Catholic church…” wrote another.

Pope Francis died just last week, on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025.

At the age of 88-years-old, the Head of the Catholic Church passed from a stroke which was followed by a coma and heart failure.

Pope Francis held his role for twelve years before he passed.

Donald Trump attended Pope Francis’ funeral with his wife and the First Lady of the United States Melania Trump.

The couple drew attention to themselves when they were caught in conversation during the service as they were seen smiling at certain moments during the event.

Trump stood out at the funeral with his outfit choice, as the president boasted a dark blue suit while most chose to stay on theme with traditional black outfits. Trump was also caught texting during the funeral.

People on social couldn’t help pointing out why Trump wouldn’t make a good Pope:
