Twitter Explodes As Trump Makes History With Longest Government Shutdown Of All Time
The shutdown over Donald Trump’s demand for border wall funds has broken the record for the longest stoppage in U.S. history. Today is Day 22, edging out the previous record of 21 days in 1995-96 under Bill Clinton.
Unfortunately, this shutdown could go on for a long time.
Early in the 1995 shutdown, Clinton and Republican leaders were already talking about a deal to end their budget battles. But Trump isn’t talking to Democrats anymore. And he’s sounding less enthusiastic about the exit strategy he’s been considering — declaring an emergency to build the wall without Congress — as Republicans have expressed serious doubts about it.
To mark this moment in history, Twitter had some thoughts.
First…the woman who SHOULD BE PRESIDENT.

Hillary Clinton tweeted, “As of today, this shutdown is the longest in history. The costs are already high: People are missing paychecks, losing business, or working without pay. Our national parks are overrun with trash. The FDA and FBI warn of the harm to our food safety and national security.”

Then others piled on, because it’s important to remember, Donald Trump owns this shutdown. He admitted it was his.
Congratulations to Donald Trump
-Longest shutdown

Good morning America! You are waking up to our country’s longest shutdown c/o a man who was willing to sell our country’s interest to line his pockets with $$ from Trump Tower Moscow, and was installed by a foreign adversary to take our country down. And a GOP that does nothing.

President Trump now presides over largest deficit in our history, the longest shutdown in our history, the biggest drop in International trust of America in our history, etc. Making history as opposed to making america great which is why at this point has historic low approval.

Today our country broke the record for the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. This isn’t a record to be proud of — 800,000 federal workers do not know when their next paycheck will come. And for every paycheck missed, it gets harder to get back on track.

Trump, under investigation for working for Russia, is responsible for the longest shutdown in our history, ignoring his own administration's climate change warning, civil rights abuses & a host of corrupt or inept officials. Russia's foreign policy goal is to disrupt our country. https://t.co/UqQnKsIPS1

Now that this government shutdown is the longest one ever, I hereby make a prediction: Trump will brag about this—its size and length—as a point of pride.

I guess when Trump said we'd get tired of "winning" with him, he meant winning the record for the longest shutdown in US history…. https://t.co/507T6iPRFS

Congratulations, @realDonaldTrump! You finally have something that’s longer than Barack Obama’s. pic.twitter.com/eOJ4xEyCo9

Remember this moment the next time Trump tries to blame the Democrats:
As the shutdown becomes the longest in US history, remember what Trump said Dec. 11.
Trump: If we don't get what we want … I will shut down the government … I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I'm not going to blame you for it. pic.twitter.com/z1ptWR6woK
