Twitter Explodes As Trump Makes History With Longest Government Shutdown Of All Time

The shutdown over Donald Trump’s demand for border wall funds has broken the record for the longest stoppage in U.S. history. Today is Day 22, edging out the previous record of 21 days in 1995-96 under Bill Clinton.

Unfortunately, this shutdown could go on for a long time.

Early in the 1995 shutdown, Clinton and Republican leaders were already talking about a deal to end their budget battles. But Trump isn’t talking to Democrats anymore. And he’s sounding less enthusiastic about the exit strategy he’s been considering — declaring an emergency to build the wall without Congress — as Republicans have expressed serious doubts about it.

To mark this moment in history, Twitter had some thoughts.

First…the woman who SHOULD BE PRESIDENT.

Hillary Clinton tweeted, “As of today, this shutdown is the longest in history. The costs are already high: People are missing paychecks, losing business, or working without pay. Our national parks are overrun with trash. The FDA and FBI warn of the harm to our food safety and national security.”

Then others piled on, because it’s important to remember, Donald Trump owns this shutdown. He admitted it was his.
