Melania Trump Reportedly Humiliated After Invite Rejected By UN School Parents

According to Express, Melania Trump is reportedly humiliated after she invited students from the United Nations International School to accompany her to the New York Stock Exchange, which immediately caused an uproar amongst parents of the students.

The trip was to include a tour and to ring the bell at the opening of the stock exchange on Monday.

Up to 10 students attending the school, which describes itself online as “the school of the United Nations” and runs from pre-K to 12th grade, were invited to attend the tour.

According the New York Daily News, the school sent out a notice asking parents for permission for their children to attend the visit with the first lady earlier this week.

However, the move has reportedly been met with some objections from parents.

Predrag Vasic, a UN public information officer, said in a letter to a UN undersecretary-general he was “disappointed by the decision to accept this invitation”.

He added: “I no longer have children in the Junior School, but the concern that I share with many other parents is that those children aren’t only representing themselves and their parents; they are representing our school, and all of us as the UNIS community.”

Parents expressed concerns their children’s appearance with the First Lady would signal an endorsement of the Trump administration.

Vasic added: “Their appearance together with the First Lady confers, by extension, on this US administration, the endorsement of our school and our community.”

In his letter, Vasic pointed out the school organized grief counseling and special activities with students to cope with the shock after Donald Trump’s election win.

He said: “The sentiment is extremely strong.”

Vasic argued the school should never have accepted the invitation.

However, the head of the UNIS defended allowing the children to participate in the photo op.

Executive director Dan Brenner said UNIS administrators knew the event would elicit a “strong reaction” but decided it represents an important chance to share the school’s values with Melania Trump and the general public.

“Debate and dialogue are fundamental to the (UN’s) core mission,” Brenner wrote in a Wednesday letter to the UNIS community. “As a school, we embody these ideals as we teach and educate our students.”

A spokeswoman for Melania Trump called the event a “unique opportunity” and a chance for the third- and fourth-graders to discuss ”the importance of kindness, healthy living, and responsible choices” with the First Lady.

Melania’s “BeBest” campaign marked its one-year anniversary in May.

It is aimed at helping children’s overall well-being, online safety and their exposure to the opioid epidemic.

The First Lady will be in New York with Donald Trump for the United Nations General Assembly.

The First Lady’s Stock Exchange appearance on Monday coincides with the first day of the UN Climate Summit, where 63 countries are expected to speak.
