A video of Eric Trump attacking former Vice President Joe Biden for having a stutter has resurfaced on social media, following news that former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders did the same thing.

Speaking to Fox News on November 14 about candidates in the 2020 Democratic Primary field after the first public impeachment hearing, Eric Trump said: “Biden can’t get through two sentences without stuttering.”

The clip of the president’s son mocking Biden’s stutter on Fox News last month re-emerged on the same day Sanders deleted a tweet making similar comments during the latest Democratic Primary Debate.

As seven candidates took to the stage in Los Angeles Thursday night for the sixth debate of the primary campaign, Sanders tweeted: “I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I hhhave absolutely no idea what Biden is talking about.”

The ex-White House staffer later deleted the tweet following backlash, including a reply from Biden saying: “I’ve worked my whole life to overcome a stutter. And it’s my great honor to mentor kids who have experienced the same. It’s called empathy. Look it up.”

Sanders replied that his actions were “commendable” and said that she “didn’t know” that he had suffered with a stutter. She went on to offer her apologies and said she “should have made my point respectfully.”

During the final Democratic Primary debate of 2019, Biden imitated a stuttering child when talking about his relationships and interactions with voters.

“My wife and I have a call list of somewhere between 20 and 100 people that we call at least every week or every month to tell them, ‘I’m here,'” Biden said. “They keep in touch with me.”

“The little kid who said ‘I-I-I can’t talk. Wh-wh-what do I do?’ I have scores of these young women and men who I keep in contact with,” he added.

Biden has talked about his struggles with a stutter on several past occasions. In a letter to The Stuttering Foundation in 2015, Biden said he understood the “terrible fear and frustration” that can come as a result of the impediment, and said his own stutter made him “question myself and my abilities daily.”

Biden has for the most part conquered his stutter, and speaking to The Atlantic about his stutter, Biden said he hadn’t had a “feeling of dread” speaking in front of crowds since “speech class in college.”
