Vice President Mike Pence spoke at a church service in Memphis Tennessee on Sunday in which in the pastor stated that homosexuality is caused by the devil.

Anyone interested in learning how the devil could cause wholly natural sexual attraction can click on over to the White House YouTube page, where the service is still available to be streamed.

Minutes after Pence promised congregants at the Holy City Church of God in Christ in Memphis, Tennessee, that he would “stand strong for the values that you hold dear,” Bishop Jerry Wayne Taylor launched into a diatribe about the “demonic” nature of homosexuality.

Bishop Taylor, demonstrated an aversion to science that is all-too-typical among fundamentalists. Taylor believes that the demonic nature of homosexuality is proven by the fact that one doesn’t see same sex attraction in the animal kingdom.

“You never see two male animals coming together,” he said. “We’ve got to expose what the devil is doing.”

This is, of course, not true, thousands of times over. Bishop Taylor might want to look around a little more.

Speaking of lies, Taylor also described Mike Pence as one of the most persecuted Christians in the United States. It appears that Taylor’s confusion extends beyond science straight into English vocabulary. It is difficult for me to see how wealthy, straight, white, Vice-President Mike Pence is in any way “persecuted.” Perhaps Taylor ought to speak to a lesbian Latina immigrant and compare notes.
