Nation Regroups After Bizarre Presser, #TrumpPressBriefing Trends

In many ways, it is still hard to believe all that we saw. Trump swayed from relatively serious discussion about there being “a lot of death” coming this week, that this coming week will be “the worst,” (we don’t know if he means “worst so far,” or whether he thinks it will be the worst in the entire epidemic). He went on and on about hydroxychloroquine, making us wonder what his real angle might be, going so far as to say that he might take it himself – even though he’s continually told us he’s tested negative. He talked about the Ukrainian hoax, and how the phone call was perfect, even though everything in the whistleblower complaint was substantiated. He wants the whistleblower’s “ass sued off.” He whined about the media.

He was insane on a level that we’ve yet to see, and it leads to questions about whether the pressure is getting to him, or whether it is getting to us, and he believes he can press ahead into full dictatorship. He veered from topic to topic, slurred words, going up and down in energy.

The nation had #TrumpPressBriefing trending, all to track the horrors.

No, the truth is dangerous. Trump is trying to blow up the idea of there even being a truth. Dictatorships cannot rise in a land where something is either true or false. Dictatorships rise where everyone gets to have their own truth.

The fact that Trump pressed Americans to take a medication without any sort of medical background, or any indication, means that no network should ever broadcast his press conferences live ever again:

But just because it has become painfully obvious that Trump is not up to the job, doesn’t mean that this presidency is ending any time soon. Indeed, in some ways, it appears to me to be stronger than ever. I worry that he’s about to declare some kind of national emergency, withhold the government stimulus checks going out, squeeze the people for money and send them into the streets, leading people to call for a crackback – setting the situation-up where many beg the strongman to take control, and put the military out among the people:

This disaster hasn’t awakened near enough.

Trump’s ratings are above his all-time lows, indeed they are probably on the higher end of what they’ve been throughout his presidency. Still, people do sense the danger creeping in. Dictatorships are never seized in good and prosperous times. They are seized in crises, and we have a crisis on our hands which makes people afraid to go out and congregate in groups. It would be the easest coup.

We have to watch these developments very closely. There is a nervousness overtaking the country as Trump gets increasingly unhinged. Yesterday’s press conference is still shaking-out across the landscape. It was not “normal” Trump insanity.

There will be no briefing today, but I don’t think it has anything to do with how yesterday’s went. I suspect that Trump is going golfing today. (See yesterday’s story).

We will see what happens next, but this is a terrifying time, on multiple fronts. It appears to me that Trump is breaking down before our eyes, while also further consolidating power.
