Secret Service Signs Mysterious $45K Contract for Golf Carts Near Trump’s Virginia Club

From the WaPo, we have a story about the Secret Service signing a $45,000 contract to rent a fleet of golf courts to be used in northern Virginia. The contract was signed Monday and went into effect on Wednesday on an “emergency basis” for use when a “dignitary” visits Sterling Virginia, home of one of Trump’s golf courses in the near future – date not set. The entire thing almost sounds like a covert operation, surely because Trump would vastly prefer that people not know he’s going golfing during all this:

The new contract, which the Secret Service described as an “emergency order,” does not mention Trump or the golf club by name. But it closely mirrors past contracts signed by the Secret Service, for agents accompanying Trump to his golf clubs in New Jersey and Florida.

Both the White House and the Trump Organization “declined to comment.” While that is their right, it would be very easy to say: “The president has no plans to golf any time soon and will not golf until the crisis passes.” Yet that is not what the White House said.

Secret Service spokeswoman Cathy Milhoan said in a statement that she could not comment about Trump’s schedule or travel. She said the “emergency” referred to in the document was not a security emergency: “Rather, the term was used to signal a need for expedited handling of the procurement due to deadlines within the agency’s business processes.”

Expedited handling procedures sure sounds like everyone hoped that if they did it fast, quietly, and the week before, no one would notice. Otherwise, he could have planned this out a while ago, and not needed the “rush.” Also, $45,000? In nothing but “golf cart rentals”? When very few golf carts are even in demand? That is just a fraction of what we as a nation spend, so he can play golf.

Were that not bad enough?

The company that received the new contract, Capitol Golf Cars, was registered in October in West Virginia, according to state records. This appears to be its first federal contract. The company lists offices in McLean, Va., and Frederick, Md.Company executives did not respond to messages left by The Post on Wednesday.

It could be anybody getting this $45,000 “emergency” contract for a dignitary playing golf at Trump’s course in Sterling Virginia.

Sounds to me like Trump’s planning a golf trip. It also sounds like people might be lining up to make money off Trump’s golf trips. As I turn my TV sound back up, it also sounds like we’re still in this crisis.

Peace, y’all
