GOP Congressman Refuses to Apologize to AOC for Calling Her a ‘F*cking B*tch’ and ‘Disgusting’

In a tense confrontation, Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) verbally assaulted fellow Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on the Capitol steps Monday, according to Mediaite. The conflict was over crime-related issues and policing and Yoho excoriated the first-term Congresswoman, calling her “disgusting” and saying she’s “out of [her] freaking mind” for connecting the dots between poverty and unemployment due to the pandemic are propelling spiking crime rates in New York City, The Hill reports.

Yoho was making his way down the steps on the east side of the Capitol building, having just voted when he confronted Ocasio-Cortez who was walking up the steps to cast her own vote. The unpleasant exchange was witnessed by a reporter from The Hill.

Yoho branded Ocasio-Cortez with the “disgusting” epithet after she correlated poverty and unemployment as the reason why crime is escalating in New York City. She reacted by calling him “rude” (which he is) and went on her way. Meanwhile, he said  “f**king b*tch to the air as Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) joined him.

Ocasio-Cortez has been the target of conservatives lately for reportedly downplaying the city’s crime rate. Last week they were out-of-sorts because she claimed the crime rate is spiking because residents are resorting to shoplifting in order to eat.

The Congresswoman talked to The Hill after the incident, noting “That kind of confrontation hasn’t ever happened to me — ever. I’ve never had that kind of abrupt, disgusting kind of disrespect levied at me.”

And she’s right. It was disgusting for Yoho to single her out like that, and one wonders if he’d have done this if Ocasio-Cortez were male instead of female. This is the sort of behavior some men direct at women and most, if not all women (myself included) have been targeted with this b.s.

But Ocasio-Cortez isn’t one to sit idly when these things happen and she took to Twitter the next day.

“I never spoke to Rep. Yoho before he decided to accost me on the steps of the nation’s Capitol yesterday. Believe it or not, I usually get along fine w/my GOP colleagues. We know how to check our legislative sparring at the committee door. But hey, ‘B*tches’ get stuff done.”

Yes, we do. Yes, indeed we do. Because if we waited for men like Yoho to do it we’d be waiting forever.

Yoho spoke to News4Jax about the horrible comments and he refused to apologize.

“I can’t apologize because I didn’t say that,” Yoho said. “Could I have handled this differently? Yeah. You know, like I said I could have set up a meeting and say ‘Hey, I’d like to talk to you about your, your policies.’ And, you know, for that, if I’ve embarrassed my constituents, I apologize for that. And we’re going to make a statement on the House floor tomorrow (Wednesday).”
