New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern Slams Trump For His ‘Patently Wrong’ Comments About Their Coronavirus Outbreak
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern had some choice words for President Donald Trump after he mocked her country’s “big surge” in COVID-19 cases while speaking at a campaign rally in Mankato, Minnesota, according to The Guardian.
“The places they were using to hold up now they’re having a big surge … they were holding up names of countries and now they’re saying ‘whoops!'” Trump said.
“Do you see what’s happening in New Zealand? They beat it, they beat it, it was like front-page news because they wanted to show me something,” he added.
“Big surge in New Zealand, you know its terrible, we don’t want that, but this is an invisible enemy that should never have been let come to Europe and the rest of the world by China.”
Auckland, New Zealand recorded nine new cases Monday, while the U.S. reported more than 40,000 new cases. So tell me, which number is the “big surge?”
So Tuesday, Ardern had a message or two for Trump, telling reporters:
“I think anyone who’s following COVID and its transmission globally will quite easily see that New Zealand’s nine cases a day does not compare to the United States’ tens of thousands, and in fact, does not compare to most countries in the world.”

Then she addressed Trump’s comment, noting “Obviously, it’s patently wrong.”

In June New Zealand reported it had eradicated the virus and no infections were reported in 102 days, Joe.My.God. reported. The current outbreak has been contained and is manageable, New Zealand’s government reported. That outbreak is limited to a single cluster of related cases, which totaled 69 as of Tuesday.
It was v tricky to say why the scientists, the modellers, the public servants, health workers, teachers, supermarket workers, politicians, businesses, people denied tangi, funerals, weddings, and millions who made myriad other sacrifices did it, but suddenly clear now https://t.co/TDYhtytsXH

Trump, at various points, has called the virus a “hoax” and has recommended potentially dangerous treatments like hydroxychloroquine and disinfectant and he’s stubbornly refused to wear a mask. But Ardern, who’s actually an effective leader placed Auckland, one of the country’s largest cities, on a two-week stage 3 lockdown.
Trump could learn from her example if he’d ever pull his head out of his…nevermind.
