Kayleigh McEnany Says It’s ‘Appalling’ and ‘Disrespectful’ that People Booed and Chanted ‘Vote Him Out’ at Trump

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany leveled sharp criticism at protesters who booed President Donald Trump enthusiastically when he visited the Supreme Court to pay his respects to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died late last week.

“The chants were appalling but certainly to be expected when you’re in the swamp,” McEnany told reporters during a press conference.

She said she doesn’t have any problems with those who chant at the president and protest peacefully, but added the chanting Thursday was “disrespectful,” The Hill reported.

“Everyone has a First Amendment in this country, but I thought it was an appalling and disrespectful thing to do as the President honored Justice Ginsburg,” she said.

Ginsburg’s casket is being displayed atop the steps at the Supreme Court and Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were on hand Thursday morning to pay their respects, standing quietly to do so.

That’s when the crowd made their feelings known, turning their discontent into a loud rumble, booing Trump and chanting “vote him out” and “honor her wish,” an obvious reference to Ginsburg reportedly telling her granddaughter that her final wish was for the next president to fill her seat.

I’m guessing Republican hypocrisy isn’t lost on these protesters. Trump is expected Saturday to announce his nominee to replace Ginsburg and the GOP is trying to ram this through before the election. Even though in 2016 they repeatedly refused to allow a hearing for President Barack Obama’s nominee over an eight-month period leading up to the election. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is trying to justify this by saying the situation is different because the majority is held by the sitting president’s party this time.

So it’s no wonder protesters are chanting “honor her wish.” Because it’s clear the Republicans don’t intend to.

Both McEnany and her boss claim there are 29 instances where a SCOTUS nomination was made during election years, CBS News reports.

“There have been 29 times a vacancy has opened during an election year or prior to an inauguration,” Trump told an audience of his supporters Saturday. “Twenty-nine times. That’s a lot. Every single time, the sitting president made a nomination. That included — did you ever hear of George Washington? Did you ever hear of Thomas Jefferson? Or how about the great Abraham Lincoln?”

McEnany also claimed this during the presser, but CBS News notes that Trump’s comments were a bit off the mark:

“Indeed, there have been more than a dozen vacancies on the Supreme Court during presidential election years, and past presidents have not shied away from naming nominees to fill those seats. But a review of Senate and Supreme Court records there were fewer than 29 instances that fit the scenario Mr. Trump describes, in which a seat on the bench opened up during an election year and before an inauguration.”

McEnany can claim the protesters were being disrespectful all she likes, but her boss is being disrespectful by trying to push a nominee on us, clearly against Ginsburg’s wishes.

How is that not disrespectful?
