Election 2020

Because of All His Lies About Voter Fraud, Trump Might Give Georgia Two Democratic Senators

With his continual and baseless claims of voter fraud, President Donald Trump is making the situation trickier for GOP candidates in Georgia’s Senate runoff campaign because of the partisan warfare that has erupted since Trump narrowly lost the state to President-elect Joe Biden. The president is harshly condemning Republican leadership in the state and the infighting may alienate the very voters that Reps. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue need in their pockets to ward off challenges from their Democratic Rivals Jon Ossof and Raphael Warnock, Joe.My.God reports per The Washington Post.

Trump and his allies continue to hammer Georgia governor Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, both Republicans, pushing baseless and evidence-free claims that they are presiding over a fraudulent election. The conspiracy theory that purports the Dominion Voting Systems machines used for the election in the state is 100 percent bunk but that doesn’t prevent Trump and his supporters from flogging this dead horse and Loeffler and Perdue are also on the bandwagon. Both have called for Raffensperger’s resignation.

But the good news is that this is coming back to haunt Loeffler and Perdue as they travel the state begging Republican voters to turn out for the January 5 runoff election. After all, they are asking Trump supporters to put their faith in a system that their clueless leader claims was manipulated to cause his defeat.

And some of the Trump faithful are skeptical that Perdue and Loeffler can regain their support.

“What did [Trump] get, 73 million votes? Those folks don’t just disappear,” said Rev. Benny Tate, of Rock Springs Church. Tate has been accompanying Perdue on campaign stops. “There are folks that didn’t come out to vote necessarily Republican, they came out to vote for Donald Trump. I think it’s imperative that [Perdue and Loeffler] do get the Trump voters back. I think it remains to be seen whether they actually come back.”

All I can say is let’s hope they don’t. Perdue and Loeffler and several other U.S. senators found themselves in hot water after allegedly dumping stocks during the beginning of the pandemic. An investigation into this by the Justice Department was shuttered and each of the senators involved claimed their financial advisers did this without their knowledge.

Ossoff has been quick to debunk this, at least when it comes to Perdue. He had this to say on Twitter:

And this:

So let’s hope that Loeffler and Perdue, like Trump, just go away. Decent people won’t miss them.
