Trump’s ‘Parting Gift’ Might Be What Causes Him to Give Up: The Worst U.S. Winter in 100 Years

I believe it was 2-3 weeks ago that we wrote here that Dr. Fauci said that “this country could get to 100,000 COVID cases a day.” We are not geniuses, not at all. We just read geniuses and apply common sense. We said at that point, given that Trump has done nothing from the federal government standpoint to tamp down on COVID, never put together a national plan, it can’t even bring itself to run commercials on masks – by Trump – “Wear a mask!”

Trump has done nothing but whine about computer programs switching millions of votes, saying he “won.” We wrote at the time, given how little the government cared: “There is no rule that if it goes to 100,000 cases a day it couldn’t go to 200,000, or 250,000. We are 100% in the dark about what winter will do to COVID.”

Today, there are according to MSNBC’s Ali Velshi just now 172,000 new COVID cases, that’s one report – a conservative one:

Correct. Just like we said there is no rule that we don’t need to stop at 100,000 cases, there’s no rule that our number today can’t double. We have colder weather and Thanksgiving coming up. Why can’t we go to 340,000? It’s probably unlikely but like we said, there is no rule saying it can’t get that bad.

Today, in Mississippi, there is not an ICU bed in Jackson available. We happen to live near Mobile on the coast. There are four HUGE hospitals in Jackson, including the University. Patients are being sent to New Orleans, Hattiesburg, Mobile … the problem is these hospitals now have their own problems. In our state, we have 12% of the ICU beds left. Total. That’s beds. Never mind the staff that actually do something to make that bed different than the one at home.

We as Americans have spent our lives believing that if we suddenly had chest pain, suddenly found ourselves barely able to breathe, suddenly hit our head hard, we could get to a hospital and get the most sophisticated healthcare in the world (even in MS). Except there is no rule that says there has to be room for us. Let’s say we followed every COVID rule and didn’t get it. But suddenly, if we had a heart attack today, we’d need all the support one would normally get, but would there be room, nurses, and personnel there to help us?

This might be what drives Trump into conceding. What if things just got too hard? What if after Thanksgiving people started demanding changes, huge changes, huge money, huge infrastructure, things bigger and more complicated than the “Everything is perfect!” press conference today. Ali Velshi right now is saying that the biggest danger the U.S. faces right now is exhausted medical staff – that’s the staff you spent your life believing was waiting for you. What happens in two to three weeks when death rates are at 2,000 a day and a fury grows. You turn on the TV and Trump is golfing.

Is that what will drive Trump to concede and get Biden what he needs? If Trump figures out that this is really bad and he doesn’t want the phone ringing off the hook? He had done his best to ignore it but it’s getting impossible.

Fck Trump.

There is no rule that this won’t rip us apart for a year, economy, health, and all.
