Before we get to the picture that will make any real Christian turn away, we must recognize that this truly is sacrilegious to those that get their spirituality and strength from their Christianity. For those that do, it is to be respected. The other thing to note is that any time one sees this type of work, it is important to keep in mind that it is the product of one person, usually a man and may not reflect the feelings of that many people, certainly not all.

However, the more it gets passed around as legitimate, the more people become complicit in what is the most symbolic picture or “thing” we have seen yet that Trump is worshiped by the MAGA crowd.

It hardly needs saying that anyone “worshipping” a leader has a problem. When it becomes a group of people worshipping just another man, then the movement becomes dangerous. Regular religion on Earth has become the justification for unimaginable abuses, cultish behavior such as this – and there is no other word – becomes both invulnerable to argument and used as motivation to justify anything against fellow citizens that just refuse to see his greatness, the “non-believers” and then people get hurt or killed. We have seen it happen already, El Paso comes to mind.

Some of society’s greatest figures, MLK, Gandhi, Lincoln, even people like Einstein, continually emphasized their humanity and rejected being held up as someone to be “worshipped.” Trump seems to encourage it: “I am the chosen one.” Words that ring a bell in those people that have waited for “the one” for a long time.

It is almost impossible to not look away, even for us lapsed Catholics. It should disgust atheists and agnostics for no other reason than their respect for the beliefs of friends who are Christians.

It is disgusting but it shows how far this country has come and how close we came to outright fascism – this is how it all begins and feeds on this shit. When Hitler rose, about 40% of Germany’s intellectual elite knew he was full of shit, stupid, and leading people into a frenzy. We wouldn’t be that different had he convinced … well, black Americans might have literally saved democracy.

That’s all we need. It is a disgusting, creepy, and insulting image. Many people find motivation and meaning through their Christianity and use it as a call to action out in the world to love one another. We hate to see their faith used for politicization, especially within a cult.
