Melania Trump Asked if She’ll Get Any Taxpayer Money or Staff After Leaving the WH and People are Not Happy

Melania Trump has been busily making plans for her departure from the White House, and this includes investigating how this new part of her life will be funded. An aide to the First Lady has already asked if there are any taxpayer funds allocated to former first ladies for their post-White House lives. Fortunately, the answer to that question is no, nope, nopity-nope.

But the fact that Melania has inquired about this has led Yahoo! News reporter Louisa Ballhaus to speculate whether Melania is trying to make her own financial arrangements, thus making it easier for her to divorce President Donald Trump. Because rumors have been swirling around, some suggesting a divorce may be on the horizon.

And Melania apparently asked about taxpayer money a few days before the final state election tally took place, meaning that while her husband keeps fighting his defeat, she wants a way out.

“She just wants to go home,” a source told CNN, noting that a 2024 presidential run “might not go over well.”

CNN’s Kate Bennett notes it wasn’t long before she was seeking outside sources for any potential income:

“After it became clear Trump would need to prep for her life after Washington, the First Lady told [special adviser Marcia Lee] Kelly to discreetly ask West Wing acquaintances and a member of the Office of Management and Budget whether there were taxpayer funds allocated to former first ladies, according to two sources familiar with the discussions.”

But going this route won’t be fruitful for her, apparently, and the answer as to whether she can derive any benefit from these funds is a rather abrupt one.

“The short answer is no,” Bennett writes. “While there are post-presidential perks for such things for the outgoing commander in chief, budgets to set up an official office and staff and cover some travel costs, there is nothing from the government for any first lady, save a paltry $20,000-a-year-pension, which is paid out only if her husband dies.”

It’s anyone’s guess as to whether she’ll divorce Trump, but some including Donald Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen, suggest a payout has been negotiated in a prenuptial agreement. I don’t know about you but I don’t care whether these two divorce or whether Melania moves to Florida or Mars.

I don’t really care, do you?

Twitter certainly had some thoughts:
