Trump Reportedly Discussed Bringing Back ‘The Apprentice’ as He Gets Ready to Leave White House

President Donald Trump is apparently mulling over his post-presidential opportunities and is apparently considering a new version of his reality TV show, The Apprentice. That’s according to a Thursday report from The Daily Beast.

Reporters Asawin Suebsaeng and Lachlan Cartwright spoke to a pair of sources familiar with the situation who said that Trump had indeed broached the subject in his conversations.

“In the past two weeks, the people familiar with the matter note Trump has casually slipped into conversation lines such as, ‘How would you like to see The Apprentice come back?’ and ‘Remember The Apprentice?'” they write.

Mediaite rather politely notes “Trump has also reportedly spoken highly about his own rating successes while The Apprentice was on the air and Suebsaeng and Cartwright add:

“The president has also bragged about how much of a ratings draw and money maker the series was for him and creator and Trump pal Mark Burnett, and that if he wanted to, he could do it again,” they noted. “Whether a network would have him is another question. The Apprentice aired formerly on NBC. But that was an era before Trump was president. And the controversy of his time in office will likely follow him after he leaves.”

But a spokesperson for Burnett nixed the idea when asked about restarting the show.

“NOT TRUE. Zero discussions about TV,” the spokesperson said.

However, it does appear the subject is on Burnett’s radar because he has mentioned the subject to his associates and believes it could be a money-maker, one source who knows Burnett told Daily Beast.

“Mark’s an opportunist. Trump was his meal ticket before and he’s keen to bring the show back to life, especially in the face of the disaster MGM has become,” the source said, referring to his tenure as chair of the MGM television group. Burnett has helmed a string of flops here, including Netflix’s Messiah, The Contender for CBS, and ABC’s Funderdome.

During its 16-year run, Trump earned a hefty profit of $197 million, according to a September report from The New York Times. The show also earned an additional $230 million thanks to its fame and notoriety.

As Trump and his lawyers still talk conspiracy theory twaddle and spread lies about the 2020 election, some of his colleagues have assured him that when he goes back to being a civilian again, he can console himself by resuming his favorite obsession if indeed The Apprentice is given the green light.

That would be one way to get him out of the nation’s hair. While the show might be a ratings hit, to begin with, I think once the initial curiosity wears off, it will join the round file of television flop history. This is a country that is weary of this man and his bellicose behavior, his attacks on the media, and his piss-poor response to a pandemic that has now killed more than 309,000 Americans.

He will be gone, and hopefully, forgotten.
