Election 2020

Trump’s Legal Team Says They Will Fight Election Results Until the Very End, ‘January 20th at Noon’

Maybe Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis are more ill from COVID-19 than we realized because it sure seems they are feverishly delusional. Team Trump’s two favorite attorneys have put out a press release that makes it clear that they aren’t giving up their continued assault on the results of the 2020 presidential election, no matter how many times they lose, and no matter that they are fighting baselessly.

Mediaite reports that the statement addresses the “Safe Harbor Deadline,” (November 8) the statutory timeline that marks the last day states are allowed to certify election results, giving them a full week to do this before the Electoral College votes on December 14.

Most major media outlets declared President-elect Joe Biden as the winner on November 10, projecting he had garnered 306 Electoral College votes. But since then President Donald Trump and his legal team have filed dozens of lawsuits in several swing states, and almost every single one of those lawsuits has been overturned.

Giuliani has recently been hospitalized with COVID-19 and reports early Tuesday say Ellis is now dealing with it as well. These reports, combined with continual court decisions refuting their legal filings and the diminishing amount of time left suggest that the fight over the election results is pretty much dead in the water or will be soon.

Unless, of course, you read Giuliani and Ellis’s statement, which notes “in Bush V. Gore the date of ‘ultimate significance’ is January 6 when Congress counts and certifies the votes of the Electoral College” and also says that “the only fixed day in the U.S. Constitution is the inauguration of the President on January 20 at noon.”

But that’s not all. The statement goes all fire and brimstone and reads, in part “Despite the media trying to desperately to proclaim that the fight is over, we will continue to champion election integrity until legal vote is counted fairly and accurately.”

Which is hilarious when you consider that their boss doesn’t care if the election is legal or accurate. Ballots have been counted and recounted in several states across the country and most states have certified Biden as the winner. But Trump’s team has clogged the nation’s courts with dozens of lawsuits, with at least 30 of them losing thus far. This includes Tuesday’s decision by the Supreme Court to deny an eleventh-hour effort by Trump allies to overturn the election results in Pennsylvania, The Washington Post reports.

But there’s something rather cathartic in watching Trump, Giuliani, and Ellis lose so many times. Really, they all deserve each other.

If you’re curious, you can read the statement here.
