South Carolina Rep. Accuses Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of Lying About the Siege and It’s Really Nasty
It did not take a day a full day after AOC’s brave account of her experiences on January 6th for the Right Wing to come after her and accuse her of lying about her position and how much danger she faced.
The criticism arose primarily from an article on the heavy MAGA Redstate in which it was pointed out that AOC was in the Rayburn House Office building at the time of the riots and that insurrectionists had not broken into the office building. Therefore, as the story went, AOC made the entire thing up. From the New York Times:
The false claims about her statements have spread widely online, much of the backlash stemming from an article on the conservative RedState blog and a livestream from the right-wing commentator Steven Crowder. On Thursday, Representative Nancy Mace, Republican of South Carolina, tweeted, “I’m two doors down from @aoc and no insurrectionists stormed our hallway.”
Except no.

AOC said specifically in her video that she heard excitement and yelling “Where is she! Where is she!” all while she hid behind the door. She then specifically said that the people she presumed to be attackers turned out to be Capitol Police, looking to protect her and her staff.
“As the Capitol complex was stormed and people were being killed, none of us knew in the moment what areas were compromised,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez tweeted in response to Ms. Mace’s post. (A spokeswoman for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said the lawmaker had no additional comment.)
Moreover, GOP Rep. Nancy Mace did state that she, too – was scared, thus affirming AOC’s fear as to what was happening. Last, even though the House office building was not penetrated, it was not for lack of trying:
Others have corroborated Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s account and confirmed that the Cannon building was threatened, even though the rioters did not ultimately breach it.
Knowing that people had breached the Capitol, knowing that one had been instructed to hide and barricade, and then hearing pounding on the door with “Where is she?” being yelled, and not by someone saying “Capitol Police, does anyone need help?” would put anyone in fear for their lives.
*FACT CHECK*
I have not once discounted your fear. We were ALL terrified that day.
I’m stating the fact that insurrectionists were never in our hallway… because they weren’t. I deal in facts. Unlike you, apparently. https://t.co/S6CWasKNpY

Moreover, the Right loathes AOC more than just about any other Democratic Rep. She is an unapologetic young person with a very progressive platform. She is a woman and a woman of color (double whammy). She says what she thinks in her heart without political calculations. And she’s breathtakingly beautiful. Physical attraction shouldn’t matter in the least but there is a reason that the Right is fixated upon her far more than some of the other new young congresswomen. Her attractiveness makes it that much more painful for the largely MAGA right.
This is a false “FACT CHECK.” Ocasio-Cortez didn’t say insurrectionists were in their hallway. She said she was generally scared about what was going on and specifically scared by a Capitol police officer who seemed angry and hadn’t made clear he was with law enforcement. https://t.co/imRJjQ9KA1

Of the MAGAs targets in the House Nancy Pelosi would be first, possibly Adam Schiff next, and AOC would be at the very top with them. Trying to poke holes in her story is quite typical. AOC’s accuracy is also quite typical. One could see throughout that video that she was not doing it to promote herself. She was doing it to educate us, especially our girls.
