Even though Joe Biden has been president for two months now, Michele Bachmann is still not handling this well at all. She’s claimed [1] her vote was swiped by Satan, who was also, incidentally physically abusing her; she’s pleaded [2] with God to allow Trump to have a second presidency, and she’s claimed [3] Biden will destroy the economy and usher in communism.
In true fear-mongering fashion, she’s back at it again, having declared during a World Prayer Sunday night, that Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential election win was a “coup” and offered dire warnings that the For The People Act (H.R. 1) [4] will somehow “forever cement that illegal takeover into place,” Right Wing Watch [5] reports.
But like always, Bachmann is being delusional. H.R. 1 is aimed at [6] expanding voting rights, limiting gerrymandering, and lessening the influence of money in politics. It has nothing to do with cementing any takeover, illegal or otherwise.
I’ve been writing about this woman for years and can’t recall a time when she’s not made bizarre claims, and even on election night she asserted [7] God had “sealed this election” in Heaven in favor of (who else?) Donald Trump. And she continues to deny that her declaration was completely [8] wrong. [9]
“I just want everyone to realize what we’re living through and what we’re witnessing is a coup,” she declared. “This is called a coup, and a coup is a political term, and what it means is an unlawful, unauthorized takeover of a legitimate government. America had a legitimate government, but this is an unauthorized, illegal takeover through voter fraud in last November’s election, and now H.R. 1 [will] forever cement that illegal takeover into place.”
“Make no mistake about it — what we’re watching is a coup,” she added. “You can see this in third-world countries. It’s happening in the greatest country in the world, the United States, but it is a coup.”
Somehow I’m skeptical that this woman has ever visited a third-world country, and I can tell you that folks in other countries do not think of the U.S. as the “greatest country in the world.” That’s especially true for Latin America, where the U.S. has repeatedly led brutal coup [10] attempts. But that’s not all — her claims of voter fraud have been thoroughly [11] and effectively debunked [12] and disproven.
I’m guessing most rational people would understand Bachmann is one ace short of a full deck but there are too many gullible fools (especially the Trump faithful) who may well take her word as testimony.
