Biden Cancels a Bunch of Trump Orders, Including a Sculpture Garden of ‘American Heroes’ Such as Billy Graham

The Biden administration has signed an executive order that revokes two measures introduced by former President Donald Trump last summer. The measures, as introduced by Trump, were meant to address protests against racial injustice that targeted statues of controversial Americans, The Hill reports.

Biden’s order revokes a number of actions taken by Trump last year, including one that was particularly front and center — prioritizing strict punishment for anyone caught vandalizing statues or monuments. But one other notable mandate by Trump is also not going to happen: The “National Garden of American Heroes” that called for creating hundreds of prominent Americans.

As noted by The Wrap last January:

“As one of his last acts in office, President Trump has ordered the building of a monument garden to include scores — upon scores — of “American heroes.” Figures of the garden are far-reaching, ranging from Muhammad Ali and Annie Oakley to Jesse Owens and Rosa Parks, to Walt Disney, and not to mention Grover Cleveland, Alex Trebek, and… Italian-born Christopher Columbus, who has been criticized for his abuse of indigenous Americans.”

Statues of Julia Child, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Whitney Houston, and Antonin Scalia were also proposed. But Scalia was no hero and was in many ways against the rights of women and homosexuals. Columbus is no hero either, having enslaved scores of indigenous Americans and spurring thousands of deaths. Really, these two don’t belong in a garden with Rosa Parks or Muhammad Ali.

Biden’s executive order also revokes an order Trump signed in May 2020. That order directed federal agencies to review section 230, a law that offers protections for social media companies. And of course, this occurred while Trump and his cronies raged about censorship as Twitter began flagging his false tweets about election fraud and tweets that poured gasoline over protests spurred by racial injustice.

Each of the orders was signed by Trump in the summer of 2020 as the death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer spurred protests all across the country. Trump being the racist he is condemned the incident but defended law enforcement and became obsessed with protesters seeking to remove or vandalize monuments of Confederate leaders and other figures known for racism. He demanded those caught doing so be incarcerated and got the whole “cancel culture” ball rolling in a visit to Mount Rushmore ahead of the Fourth of July. Where he also announced his plans for the Garden of Heroes, which he wanted to be built by July 2026.

Fortunately, thanks to Biden revoking this order, Trump won’t get his wish. And that’s a good thing. Trump sent in the National Guard to deal with peaceful protesters and he wilfully spread obnoxious lies about the “stolen election” and therefore spurred the riots at the Capitol building.

He deserves this comeuppance.
