CNN’s John Berman Makes a Fantastic Political Point While Going Off on the Westminster Dog Show

Straight up. The political angle in this column is subtle, almost non-existent, and would be just as good if we tossed it aside. But we’re not going to throw it aside because this site has a boss who wants things her way. Occasionally, she can give us some leeway with her purebred beauty. Honestly, she knocks men over before she uses that silky voice that works like a duck call. So perhaps the exquisite, ridiculously over-educated and, still somehow under-appreciated, boss may not be furious enough to fire someone at the end of the day.

With that out of the way. Everyone involved in this site owns dogs, every one of us. Some of us have never gone a day in our lives without a dog that isn’t part of the family. Thus it is, that we used to watch the Westminster dog show occasionally. Look, we have no problem with smaller, purebred dogs, some of which are also used as fashion accessories if one is wealthy enough.  One of us, ahem, finds himself living in a small southern resort town with more dog salons than regular salons. It would be interesting to see which is more expensive. The single dad here got a lesson recently. Don’t go in with $100 in cash and think a daughter or a poodle’s trim is covered.

So we get that the smaller dogs are pampered and loved just much as our kids. That’s fantastic. But some of us can’t conceive of getting a dog that isn’t at least a 60 lb mutt that committed the offense of being born and was in jail when we got them. The dog also must be part lab because that’s just the way it is. This is America and show us a better American dog than a mutt. Go ahead. We will wait, forever. Because America is a land of mutts, or at least it should be, color, ethnicity, religion, immigrant, LGBTQ, most of us are proud mutts. That’s America, love it or leave it! And Democrats have been making that point for some time now.

John Brennan adamantly sounded off on that point this morning and did it almost as articulately as could the boss here, along with Brianna Keilar, who’s almost as lovely and smart as … never mind:

America. Love it or leave it! Your mutt won’t leave your side and she’ll be just as proud! Your boss, well… be good to her.
