Straw polls are worth less than straws, right?

Yes, that is very true. And yet some straw polls are taken at conservative conferences, to gauge how the conservatives feel about various men’s chances for the nomination (No women). Thus, in a way, a straw poll is a bit of a competition. Trump doesn’t like to lose any competition, especially ones that get published.

The Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference occurred over the weekend. It has a straw poll that gets published. No, it doesn’t actually mean anything except it has a winner, which makes it a meaningful competition in Trump’s mind, and… well, Trump “lost” to Ron DeSantis. This is a huge develop, or at least some say it’s a huge development. According to Republican operative Kevin Sheridan:

“Huge races, but the most interesting news to come out of that Faith and Freedom coalition was the straw poll that had Ron DeSantis beating Donald Trump, as you just mentioned at the top of the show. I think that’s something to watch. If DeSantis actually were to get into a primary with Donald Trump, it would be a tough race all around. And you know, that’s the most interesting news.”

Right. We would find it far more interesting if the straw poll wasn’t done in Florida, where DeSantis’s folks could give busboys money to buy a ballot, get them into Republican politics early. We’d find it even more interesting if Kevin Sheridan wasn’t a Romney-Ryan campaign advisor who might be stirring with straws, you know?

All we are saying is that we haven’t seen Mitch McConnell wipe out an entire investigation because Ron DeSantis ordered it. Besides, Ron DeSantis would find his head on a straw in Key Biscayne if he ever…Wait. That’s not the point of straw polls, no one “wins” or “loses” in straw polls. They just gauge “interest.” Michael Steele, former RNC Chair, says that the only dependable news is that Trump is going to sh*t little blue crabs when he sees this because something’s wrong. He’s not on top!

“Well, Kevin, I know one thing for sure, when the former president sees that poll where DeSantis did better than him, look for that other shoe to drop from Trump.”

Exactly. The only shoe dropping on anything is the one that is normally stalking around Mar-a-Lago, looking for bridle gowns. It doesn’t mean much, but if it causes Trump’s blood pressure spike and DeSantis is worried about his head drowning? No real threat to people? That’s meaningful enough for today.
