Election 2020

Adam Schiff Speaks for America and Says That Marjorie Taylor Greene is ‘Legitimately Nuts’

It sounds like Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) has about had it with fellow House member Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). During a recent podcast, Schiff said Greene and those who support her aren’t playing politics but are instead “legitimately nuts.”

The Independent reports Schiff appeared on The Daily Beast’s podcast The New Abnormal, where he also added: “we’re at a very tenuous point in the history of our democracy” and cited “singularly destructive voices like Tucker Carlson” along with “people running around the country still pushing the Big Lie to strip independent elections officials of their duties and get them over to Trump acolytes who will overturn the next election if they lose it. It’s a pretty frightening moment.”

Podcast host Molly Jong-Fast then asked Schiff the million-dollar question:

“Are they pretending to be crazy or are they genuinely crazy?”

“I think the MTGs are legitimately nuts, but most of the Republican conference that’s pushing the Big Lie understands it’s a big lie. They’re not stupid,” Schiff said. “They know exactly what they’re doing. And then it’s just craven capitulation to Donald Trump because they fear a primary, because they want to advance within the party.”

So quite obviously the Trump brown-nosing continues.

Schiff also noted “For every one Liz Cheney, there are at least five willing to say, ‘If you’re not willing to push the Big Lie, I volunteer. You know, nothing’s more important to me than my ambition. And if it means tearing down one of the pillars of our democracy … then sign me up.'”

“Sadly, that’s where most of the Republicans are right now,” Schiff said.

Indeed it seems like some members of the GOP support Trump so much that they have just about turned themselves inside-out doing so. Lindsey Graham, for instance, who was critical of Trump at the beginning, did perhaps the ultimate flip-flop. Heck, even current Trump sycophant Kayleigh McEnany was one of Trump’s harshest critics in 2015 before she did the flip-flopperoo, characterizing his now-infamous remarks about Mexican immigrants as “racist.” In a set of panels on CNN and Fox Business, McEnany said it was “unfortunate” and “inauthentic” to call him a Republican, CNN reports. Then, as the rest of the world knows, she became Trump’s White House press secretary.

When people like Graham and McEnany do such an abrupt about-face it’s easy to see how some people might be persuaded to push the so-called Big Lie and I’m sure this isn’t lost on people like Schiff, who now sits on the House Select Committee that is currently investigating the January 6 pro-Trump siege of the Capitol in which an enraged mob attempted to subvert democracy.

So when Schiff calls Greene and her cohorts “legitimately nuts,” it’s not without reason. And it’s not the first time he’s run up against her nonsense. Last May, when she compared COVID-19 vaccinations and the wearing of masks to the h0l0caust, he noted this was a sign of a greater “rot” within the Republican Party.

He condemned her on Twitter for her remarks which were widely regarded as anti-Semitic, slamming her and anyone else who lauded her for “creating chaos for clicks.”

Schiff quite obviously has a handle on Greene but the mere action of rewarding her and others isn’t going to make their level of ignorance and extremism go away. Greene is up for reelection in 2022 and there’s a good chance she may lose. The Democrats had better gear up for this and make sure that happens.
