Joe Biden Shuts Down Peter Doocy Over False Claims on Immigration and Calls Fox News ‘Garbage’

They just hear something crazy and run with it.

Fox News’ Peter Doocy, son of Fox & Friends star Steve Doocy, seems to be a chip off the old block. During a presser today regarding the FDA approval of the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5–11, Pete fired off a ridiculous, unrelated question:

About the way forward Mr. President. As you were leaving for your overseas trip, there were reports that were surfacing that your administration is planning to pay illegal immigrants who were separated from their parents at the border up to $450,000 each, possibly a million dollars per family. Do you think that might incentivize more people to come over illegally?

Good grief. Who on earth would see something like that and think it was true? Doocy was referring to a report in the Wall Street Journal about government payouts for families affected by separations at the border.

What that report fails to mention is that the money isn’t some kind of gift. There is a lawsuit over separated families’ treatment at the US–Mexico border. The federal government, hemmed in by the many illegal actions of the Trump administration, may have to settle.

In fact, if you search Google for “Biden+450K+immigrants,” you get nothing but results from right-wing sources. Fox News, National Review, the New York Post, and countless other outlets are breathlessly reporting on the payouts, but all of them hilariously fail to mention that it’s part of a lawsuit.

They make it sound like Christmas for undocumented immigrants, at taxpayer expense. They use phrases like “issuing payments,” as though it’s stimulus for non-citizens.

Biden bristled at Doocy’s nonsense question:

If you guys keep sending that garbage out, yeah. But it’s not true.

Unfortunately, this is what we can expect for at least the next four years. It’s what we saw for the entire Obama presidency. Conservative outlets take a false narrative and ask the president about it at every opportunity. They legitimize their own erroneous reporting simply by repeating the same “garbage” over and over again.

If you catch your right-wing family members passing this story around at Thanksgiving, make sure you let them know to thank Donald Trump for getting America sued in the first place.
