It has been a long time since anyone at this website, and – we suspect the general public, has seen a video that could possibly capture the essence of the differences between Trump and Obama better than the one below.

The scene appears to be just moments after Donald Trump’s inauguration speech. Bob and Elizabeth Dole are seated up next to the Capitol, and – more importantly, right next to the steps that lead away from the stages up front where the presidents sit and higher up with other dignitaries. Bob Dole is in a wheelchair, Elizabeth is beside Bob. (Do not forget that Elizabeth is a very accomplished woman herself, an important American stateswoman in her own right, who once served as Sec. of Transportation). This is a couple, not just Bob.

The inauguration is the time and place where a lot of historically important and powerful Americans gather at one time, one of the very few occasions in which they are all in one place. Even with the numbers gathered, the Doles stood out. Bob Dole was a war hero, a man that led in the Senate for decades, ran as the Republican nominee for president in 1996, and continued to serve even after his failed run.

Dole was respected by colleagues on both sides of the aisle. But he was also very funny, and well-liked. He deserves respect and dignity from all Americans, but especially two “presidents,” one just past, one just sworn in.

The difference in how Trump treated the Doles versus how Obama treated them says almost everything one needs to know about Trump as a person and Barack Obama as a person, though – to be fair, a lot more Americans would be like Obama than Trump.
