Republicans Freak Out as J6 Committee Says it Expects to Have Interim Report by Summer

The House Select Committee which is investigating the January 6 Capitol riots have been working for a long time now, almost a year, and according to the Washington Post, they have finally announced that they will release their first report of their findings by this upcoming summer. If everything goes as planned, it looks like the American public can expect that summer report as an initial summary, and then a more comprehensive final report should follow sometime before the midterm elections in November.

One senior committee member explained that, “We want to tell it from start to finish over a series of weeks, where we can bring out the best witnesses in a way that makes the most sense.” Another member indicated that it could be possible for another report to be released in the fall.

When it comes to public hearings on these reports, the committee chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) told CNN that, “We don’t have a specific date. […] But we’ll have some rolling hearings that will go on a good bit.” When taking into account multiple sources, it appears that public hearings will probably start sometime during the winter and could continue into the warmer weather.

The committee has also dropped the information that they have begun to expand their search, and are now investigating former president Donald Trump’s criminal activity, and the evidence they gather may be handed over to the Department of Justice. According to one senior aide, they are discovering through their search for what led up the insurrection that Trump did a “pretty masterful job of exploiting millions of Americans.”
