Trump Reportedly Cancelled His Jan 6 Speech Because He Feared It Would Get Low Ratings

According to new information from a CNN analyst, one reason that Trump decided to cancel his press conference set to take place on the anniversary of the Capitol insurrection was fear of getting low TV ratings. Trump has always been concerned with how high his ratings are (or aren’t), and is known for exaggerating his own success after any given appearance.

The press conference was supposed to take place at Trump’s Florida Mar-A-Lago residence and would have been focused around what he called the “real insurrection”, also known as the day Joe Biden beat him in the 2020 election, as well as defending those who were in attendance at the Capitol riots.

Two days before the event, Trump announced on his social media that it would be cancelled, in typical fashion with a statement that blamed “Fake News” and the Select Committee formally investigating January 6. Statements like these are probably the reason that there were rumors circulating that his aides initially pressured him into cancelling because they were worried that he would do something even more indefensible than usual during his speech.

CNN’s Chief Political Analyst Gloria Borger suggested yet another possible reason he would have canceled, saying that according to a GOP source the former president was worried that TV channels would not want to cover the conference. She said, “I was told today by a Republican source with knowledge that the president when he heard that the networks weren’t going to take it live, that cable networks weren’t going to take it live, sort of said, ‘Wait a minute, I’m not going to get the attention that I want and this could look bad for me.’
