Well, if Ted Cruz Ever Had a Shot at the Presidency, He Just Blew It 100%
Ted Cruz, who recently threw out the idea of running for president in 2024, has once again earned major criticism from the general public, but this time it’s coming mostly from his own political party. Almost on the one year anniversary of the January 6 Capitol riots, Cruz publicly called the insurrection a “terrorist attack”, which was not met kindly by the far right extremists who voted him into office.
Cruz let the comment slip at a Senate Rules Committee hearing which was held on January 5 to discuss the lack of security that allowed the riots to happen, and escalate to the point they did. As the Texas Senator said, “It is an anniversary of a violent terrorist attack on the Capitol where we saw the men and women of law enforcement demonstrate incredible courage, incredible bravery, risk their lives to defend the men and women who served in this Capitol.”
Despite his many social media and interview slip-ups that have earned him negative attention from democrats, Cruz has managed to keep his support from republican voters by doing things such as not voting to confirm the 2020 presidential election. Now, he has lost a lot of that leverage, and earned a barrage of criticism from both voters and GOP politicians and public figures, such as Fox New’s Tucker Carlson.
In response to Cruz’s statement, Carlson said that, “Of all the things January 6 was, it was definitely not a violent terrorist attack”, much to the agreement of many others who commented on Cruz’s choice of words. Anyone who has ever pissed off far right extremists on social media know that they are a force to reckon with, and between this and accidentally mixing up “Western Australia” with “Washington State”, the Senator may have to take a break from social media all together.
