Erin Burnett Once Really Respected Maria Bartiromo, But Not Anymore — ‘She Clearly Has Lost Her Way’

In an appearance on The Axe Files Thursday, CNN anchor Erin Burnett discussed her time at CNBC and told host David Axelrod that she’s sad at how much her former colleague and current Fox News host Maria Bartiromo has devolved politically. Burnett said she believed Bartiromo “has lost her way,” when it comes to politics, Mediaite reports.

Burnett said she’s sad to see how partisan her former colleague has become over the years.

“I always thought her greatest strength was that she was a hard worker and I feel she lost her way. Clearly she’s lost her way,” Burnett said. “I’m obviously not personally close to her, but I think it’s sad what happened to be honest because she was a very hard worker.”

At one point in the conversation, Axelrod asked her about the purported ‘rivalry’ between the two anchors, asking ‘did you feel as if you guys were competing, pitted in any way?”

“We definitely were, and I don’t know, maybe as life goes on I’ll get more perspective on it, I think there is a desire out there for there to be a women versus women thing,” Burnett said. “I hope that’s lessened over time, but when I was there that was certainly part of it.”

Burnett even referred to the notorious Vanity Fair story that highlighted their supposed rivalry. The article was titled Who is Wall Street Queen B?”

“Vanity Fair did an article that was about me versus Maria and I was like ‘why would that be the article?’ There was a desire for that sort of narrative,” she said.

Right now, Bartiromo is receiving plenty of scrutiny over a claim about the White House’s response to the Ukraine invasion.

“Some people have told me … this administration does not see Putin as the enemy, they see them as a partner on many issues,” Bartiromo said Sunday on Fox News.

Poor dear really has lost her focus. That’s how the Trump administration viewed Putin. So far Biden’s administration hasn’t exactly been cozy with the Russian leader.

A Fox News spokesperson sent a snippy statement to Mediaite in response to Burnett’s remarks:

“It’s sad and classless Erin Burnett would feel the need to launch an attack on anyone at Fox News this week.”

Frankly, Burnett’s comments weren’t an “attack” they were merely a response to Axelrod’s questions. Seems like Bartiromo really has strayed from the path, especially in the video below, where she gets weepy over Trump.
