Trump, I Kid You Not, Complains About His Inauguration Crowd Size Coverage in Bizarre New Interview

I guess Donald Trump has run out of recent things to complain about because he’s now back to griping — AGAIN — about media coverage of his 2017 inauguration.

I don’t know what compels him to continue beating this dead horse. I think the corpse is pretty disintegrated by now. However, that’s not preventing him from bringing it up during an interview on the conservative Real America’s Voice network, Raw Story reports. Apparently, he was bothered because the media reported his recent rally in Georgia was sparsely attended. Heck, even right-wing commentator Erick Erickson described crowd attendance as “anemic.”

But Trump has a different version of reality. During the interview he made it more than clear he loves to believe his own nonsense.

“The cameramen are there saying, ‘Sir, that rally was packed!” he retorted angrily.

Then he attacked the media again for past coverage of rallies that boasted smaller audience attendance numbers than expected, and of course, he eventually led into coverage of his inauguration. Journalists quite correctly noted the crowd size for Trump’s inauguration was nowhere near the crowd size for former President Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2009.

“They did it with my inauguration,” he griped. “They take pictures hours and hours before the inauguration starts, and then they talk about the crowd. We had a massive crowd! And if you see the late pictures when I was speaking, but they don’t show those pictures! We have such a corrupt media!”

But side-by-side photos of Obama and Trump’s inaugurations taken at exactly the same time and published in The Washington Post lay the truth bare. The crowd for Obama was overflowing. For Trump? Not so much.

And of course, Trump’s spokeswoman Liz Harrington has released a statement from the former president that refutes media reports of lackluster attendance.

“We had a massive crowd last night in Georgia, but as usual the Fake News Media absolutely refuses to show it. People are estimating 25,000 to 35,000…” blah, blah.blah, blah.

As is typical of Trump, he never mentions who those “people” making the estimates are. And Erickson isn’t the only member of the news media who took note of the small crowd size. Many noted this may have been the smallest crowd they’d ever seen at a Trump rally.

“This is the smallest crowd I’ve seen at a rally of his in Georgia since he won the 2016 election—significantly smaller than the crowd in Perry in September,” said Greg Bluestein, who covers politics for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and has attended more than two dozen Trump rallies around the country.

Stephen Fowler, a reporter for Georgia Public Broadcasting reported similar information.

“It’s almost time for Trump to speak here in Georgia and there’s probably no more than 5,000 people here, the smallest Trump rally I’ve ever covered here,” he tweeted.

“Way less than the Perry rally in 2021 (closer to 10k) and nowhere close to 2020’s 20-30k+”

Maybe Trump believes if he complains enough something will become true. Maybe he’s exemplifying the old cliche about the squeaky wheel getting the grease. But just as he continues to falsely claim he won the 2020 presidential election it doesn’t make it true. Hopefully, since crowds seem to be dwindling, Trump supporters are also dwindling.

That’s kind of a pleasant thought, now isn’t it?
