Ashli Babbitt’s Brother, Already Facing One Hate Crime Charge, Faces New Criminal Charges for Another Attack in California

Many of us remember Ashli Babbitt, the Trump-supporting QAnon believer who was k*lled by a law enforcement officer when she tried to climb through a window inside the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, but now her brother Roger Witthoeft is in the news facing charges he allegedly attacked a man in Ocean Beach, near San Diego, according to the San Diego City Attorney’s Office on Tuesday.

Witthoeft, 33, was already facing charges that he allegedly slapped a Latino San Diego Gas & Electric worker in September, telling him to “talk in English you (expletive) immigrant” and “go back to your country,” The Times of San Diego reports.

According to prosecutors, the employee was diverting traffic in an intersection at Point Loma as SDG&E workers repaired a utility box and apparently Witthoeft became enraged because the man’s truck was stopped in the intersection.

Roughly four months later, Witthoeft got into a conflict with another man, this time on Muir Avenue in Ocean Beach, the City Attorney’s Office said. The man was helping a disabled friend get out of the car when Witthoeft approached him. He is now accused of striking the man, knocking him to the ground, and stomping on his phone. The City Attorney’s Office said the victim contacted prosecutors after reading about Witthoeft’s previous hate crime case.

“Mr. Witthoeft’s disdain for those who are different from him because of their nationality or disability is reprehensible,” City Attorney Mara Elliott said. “Our community members, visitors, and those who work in our neighborhoods have the right to be free from acts of violence. This office will fight hard to hold Mr. Witthoeft accountable.”

Witthoeft was arraigned in March for the hate crime case but remains out of custody for the time being. He is scheduled to go on trial in June on charges of battery with a hate crime enhancement, as well as one count of violating the victim’s constitutional rights by threat of force.

He sounds like a real jewel of a human being doesn’t he? If he did these things, let’s hope he gets what he deserves.
