Mary Trump Absolutely Scorches Susan Sarandon for Telling People it’s Pointless to Vote for Democrats

Susan Sarandon is arguably one of Hollywood’s most beloved actresses and she’s turned in brilliant performances in movies like Thelma & Louise and Bull Durham. She gave a stellar performance in the movie Dead Man Walking, which earned her an Oscar. Clearly, Sarandon is no dummy and she’s a fiery progressive who’s been known to burn Democrats who act more like Republicans, Uproxx notes.

In the age of Trump (which seems to keep going on with no end in sight), Sarandon has been more politically active than usual, even to the point of throwing in behind Jill Stein in 2016. That offended lots of Democrats and her situation didn’t improve when she called out Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for not being progressive enough. She also tweeted a #DefundThePolice meme that admittedly went perhaps a bit too far — criticizing New York Police Department officers who attended the funeral for officers Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora. That tweet has since been deleted but it reportedly said “I’m gonna tell me kids this is what fascism looks like,” with this appearing at the very top of the meme: “So if all these cops weren’t needed for CRIME that day, doesn’t that mean they aren’t needed ANY day?”

However, since the tweet ran afoul of The New York Post, the newspaper retweeted it for posterity’s sake.

And now Mary Trump has apparently taken a breather from lambasting her uncle, former President Donald Trump to smack Sarandon for posting a tweet after it was revealed that the Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade.

This is what the actress tweeted:

Business Insider notes Mary Trump was not happy about this tweet.

“She’s a complete idiot,” said the noted best-selling author/psychiatrist. “She doesn’t know what she’s talking about and if anybody can say with a straight face that the Democrats are the problem, I don’t know what to tell them. She was pretty decent in a couple of movies a couple of decades ago, but politically she’s a moron.”

Trump also added that Sarandon thinks “she’s some wise shaman or something,” and then suggested perhaps the actress is a victim of the “Dunning-Kruger effect” — a type of bias (according to Uproxx) “where people with a low ability at doing something overestimate their worth.”

Trump concluded by saying “If we can just make it as simple as possible — a vote for Republicans is a vote for fascism.”

While Trump has a point here, I think Sarandon has gotten some things right as well. It’s been over a year since Democrats took over the three main bodies of government and they haven’t been up to much. Most are acting half-asleep while the midterm elections will soon be here and we have DINOS like Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema in the Senate. What good are those two — especially since they continually support Republicans?

Mary Trump isn’t wrong, but then neither is Susan Sarandon,
