Raphael Warnock Flies Past Herschel Walker in GA Senate Poll and Holds Double-Digit Lead

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Georgia) just received some excellent news that must feel like a very positive shot in the arm. According to a Quinnipiac Poll of Georgia, he has jumped to a double-digit lead over his Republican opponent, Herschel Walker. The race for governor, however, is neck-and-neck.

One of the reasons for Warnock’s support is that support from 54 percent of registered voters. Walker, however, only receives 44 percent. NBC News reports that Warnock’s 10-point lead is outside of the polls’ margin of error by perhaps plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

That’s a big change from January when Quinnipiac put Walker ahead of Warnock (barely) at 49 percent vs. 48 percent. The current poll, conducted between June 23 and 27 comes after a less than pleasant month for Walker now that it’s been revealed that he has several children outside of marriage.

In the governor’s race, incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp (R) and his Democratic challenger Stacey Abrams at 48 percent each. In January the poll showed Kemp at 49 percent with Abrams at 47 percent.

But it’s worth noting that while Quinnipiac’s poll numbers were overall more accurate in the 2020 election than were those numbers for other states. However, at that time the poll did underestimate GOP support in Georgia two years ago.

But not all the news for Democrats is rosy, however. Quinnipiac reports that President Joe Biden’s approval rating stands at 33 percent. Kemp, on the other hand, has a net-positive job approval rating with 43 percent disapproving. Warnock’s approval rating is even higher, fortunately, with 49 percent of voters approving and only 39 percent disapproving.

Inflation is the biggest concern for Georgia voters, Quinnipiac found, with 41 percent claiming inflation is the biggest issue, while for 15 percent of the state gun violence was the most important. For 10 percent abortion and election laws are the most important.

It’s a relief to see Walker trailing in the polls, he may be an ex-pro football player, but he knows next-to-nothing about politics and has some preposterous ideas.
