Election 2020

WHOA: Did Trump Accuse Ivanka of Committing Perjury in Front of the Jan. 6 Committee? Was it Accidental?

When the January 6 hearings aired Thursday, they became a ratings smash, with an audience that matched the Super Bowl in size, as people tuned in to watch House members lay out their evidence that Donald Trump knowingly promulgated 2020 election lies as his allies coordinated plans with radical right-wing groups to wreak havoc at the Capitol on Jan.6, 2021.

Some of the testimony included that of Ivanka Trump, who carefully worded her thoughts and admitted she believed then-Attorney General Bill Barr said he found no evidence of fraud, Uproxx reports. Apparently dear old dad was not happy with that, so he did what most of us thought he’d do: Toss Ivanka straight under the bus, according to Mediaite.

In a video that aired during Thursday night’s hearing, interviewers asked the former First Daughter what she thought about Barr’s findings that the election wasn’t stolen, as the then-president keeps claiming. Repeatedly.

“It affected my perspective,” Ivanka said. “I respect Attorney General Barr so I accepted what he said.”

As noted by Mediaite, this “represented another, quite personal and familial, nail in the coffin of Trump’s baseless claims.”

Since his election loss, Trump has yelled continually baseless claims about election fraud, even though no court of law has found his claims to be true, and Ivanka’s testimony just took a hammer to those false claims. So that’s when Trump took to his Truth Social platform to throw his eldest daughter under the bus.

“Ivanka Trump was not involved or looking at, or studying Election results,” he snapped in the post. “She had long since checked out and was, in my opinion, only trying to be respectful to Bill Barr and his position as Attorney General (he sucked!)”

As you might expect, Trump is once again in meltdown mode and has been ranting for the past several days on his struggling platform, but the post above has made some people wonder if he’s calling his daughter a liar? Even if he probably did it accidentally? Was he claiming she lied under oath?

That’s what Mary Trump, the ex-president’s former niece and one of his biggest critics suggested in an appearance on MSNBC on Sunday.

“I think Ivanka walked a very fine line,” Mary said. “She did not say anything necessarily incendiary but, as we thought would happen, she decided she needed to come down on the side of what the facts support.”

In other words, Ivanka did the right thing and dad didn’t like it.

Mary did observe, however, that “Donald didn’t throw her entirely under the bus.” She noted he may have done something that’s far worse. “But I think it’s important to point out the fact he said she checked out, although that is kind of rude, isn’t really the issue. He is accusing her of perjury, really.”

MSNBC host Alex Witt pondered that comment for a moment, telling her: “That’s interesting, I hadn’t read it that way.”

But if there’s anything that remains constant with Donald Trump, besides his nonstop complaining, it’s that he’s a clod with words, even to the point of accidentally telling the truth and admitting he lost the 2020 election. People in Trump’s orbit have long said Trump will throw his children under the bus in order to save his own skin. There’s nothing this man won’t do to protect himself, even if it means he has to turn on those he loves. If it’s possible for him to love anyone other than himself, that is.
