GOD HELP US: Meghan McCain Considering Running for Office Because of Course She Is

Meghan McCain is mulling over the idea of running for office “in a few years” because she is worried about former President Donald Trump’s ongoing influence over the Republican Party, Newsweek reports.

As the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Meghan McCain has gained a reputation for being an outspoken conservative. That’s especially true for her four years as a panelist on The View where tempers flared frequently. She’s more than happy to sit at the right-wing table but doesn’t support Trump and is unhappy at the wave of populism that has overcome the Republican party since Trump began using the slogan “Make America Great Again (MAGA)” during his 2016 presidential run.

She popped up on the British TV Network  GB News earlier this week, where she was asked if she’d ever follow in her dad’s footsteps and run for office.

“Maybe in a few years,” she said. “It’s the first time in my life I’ve ever considered it. But this fever of MAGA has to break—one way or the other.”

McCain seems to hold out hope that the Republican party will begin to diversify again. Someday.

“President Trump has to get re-elected—God forbid—again, or he just has to leave the national stage. Because as we have seen in the last election and in the primaries right now, he can’t make candidates but he can break them,” she said. “And right now there’s still just a lot of people who are winning that are following in his footsteps and I really would love more ideological diversity in the party.”

Certainly, in some ways, McCain is not a typical conservative — she offered effusive praise to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for sharply criticizing the administration of President Joe Biden for continuing to detain immigrant children after promising it would not do so, The Decider reports. McCain noted that, unlike many Democrats, AOC has been “absolutely hammering Biden” because his administration is continuing to detain migrants at the border even though Biden promised to end that when he became president. “The American people aren’t stupid,” McCain said. “They know that the difference between a ‘jail-like facility for children’ and ‘kids in cages’ are pretty much the same thing.”

But when it comes to running for office, McCain wants to bide her time. Americans right now are turning away from political families she noted and she believes this could be a problem if she did decide to step up.

“There’s a big disdain for political families in the country right now,” she told GB News. “It’s very populist. President [George W.] Bush’s nephew [George P. Bush], I believe, just ran for office and lost in Texas in his home state. There’s a real palette for it where people really don’t like it.”

In an earlier interview with Newsweek, McCain said she didn’t vote for Trump during either of his presidential runs and she believes that since she refuses to go “full MAGA, red meat, alt-right conservative” or to disavow the party as MAGA looms large means her voice is one of the quieter ones on conservative radio.

“I don’t want to say it’s completely in the minority, but it’s certainly not as loud,” she explained. “There’s this feeling where if you’re not a full populist and believe in the MAGA movement you’re not welcome.”

And the current status of the Republican Party has also made her reluctant to spend much time in front of the camera in the days ahead.

“I don’t want to defend things that are indefensible,” she said. “The sins of the Republican Party and the sins of Donald Trump are not the sins of Meghan. I’m still conservative. You know, obviously that’s never going to change.”

I can’t blame her for wanting to put miles between herself and Trump, but it would be nice if McCain would re-think her conservative status. She’s sympathetic to immigrant children, something that any true-blue would be upset at.

Come on over, Meghan. The water is warm.
