The daughters of an armed man who received a 7-year prison sentence stemming from the attempted siege of the U.S. Capitol building are blaming former President Donald Trump after their father’s sentence was handed down.

Their father, Guy Reffitt of Texas received the longest prison sentence yet given in relation to the January 6 Capitol attack, Mediaite reports. Reffitt was remanded into custody to begin his lengthy sentence by Judge Dabney Friedrich after being found guilty of charges of five charges stemming from his actions while the riot was in full swing.

The two women, identified only as Reffit’s daughters shredded Trump as they spoke to CBS News after their father was sentenced.

“We are divided and it’s not okay… because it was Trump’s name on the flags,” one of his daughters said to reporters on Monday. “That’s what I meant. That’s all I meant.”

A third young woman, also identified as Reffitt’s daughter added:

“I think it really paints a bigger picture to mark my dad as this horrible person, and then having him prosecuted like this when somebody is maybe even able to get elected again doesn’t seem right to me.”

That led the first daughter to conclude, “Trump deserves life in prison if my father’s in prison for this long.” While I think it would be great if Trump received life in prison, we must remember that Reffitt attempted to siege the capital while armed with a gun and zip ties. Fortunately, that plan was scuppered when he tried to rush a police line and was captured. He was the first of the Capitol rioters to be found guilty by a jury.

Appearing in court Monday, Reffitt expressed regret for his actions, NBC News reports. He referred to himself as a “f*cking idiot,” and said he was “not thinking clearly,” when he made his way to the U.S. Capitol, intending to enter with a weapon.

“I clearly f*cked up,” he said. “I did definitely want to make an apology, multiple apologies really, and accept my responsibility because I do hate what I did.”

Reffitt also said he regretted being a member of the far-right military movement, the Three Percenters.

It’s nice to see these Trump supporters being sentenced for what they did and as I said before I’d be on board with Trump himself serving a life sentence, but I have to wonder — and it’s something his supporters clearly don’t get — does he ever think of those who dedicated themselves to the insanity of attacking the Capitol? My guess is probably not.

And my other guess is about the only thing he’ll face is a slap on the wrist. I hope history proves me wrong, but that’s how it’s been for this man so far.

After all the damage he’s done. Shameful.
