Fox News Host Slams Lindsey Graham for His Stupid Plan to Ban Abortion Across the Country

Lindsey Graham managed to enrage his fellow Republicans in spectacular fashion — by introducing a nationwide abortion ban smack in the middle of the stock market crashing amid rising inflation rates. And when the South Carolina senator stopped by Fox News Wednesday night, host Jesse Watters let Graham know his timing couldn’t be worse.

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, Republican candidates have taken a direct hit because this has mobilized Democrats and Independents to protect abortion access. This has been a political hot potato for the GOP which had largely been avoiding the issue by leaving it up to the individual states to decide, Uproxx reports.

So an issue that Republicans have been trying to avoid until after the midterm elections is now front and center, thanks to Graham’s ill-timing.

And Watters aired his thoughts on the situation, according to Mediaite.

“On the day inflation roared back and the market crashed, I thought I’d see Republican senators in front of grocery stores and gas stations,” Watters said. “You know, promising to bring prices down if you put them back in charge. But that’s not what happened.”

At that point, Watters played a clip of Graham introducing his bill during a press conference, and then he introduced the senator.

“Senator, Republicans are very angry at you,” he said. “Why’d you do it on that day? Not great timing. Don’t you see that?”

Graham tried to diffuse the situation by saying there’s “no bad time to protect the unborn,” but that simply prompted Watters to turn up the heat, Mediaite reports.

“I’m proudly pro-life and I have no apology for being pro-life,” Graham said. “And there’s no bad time to defend the unborn. So, if you expect me to sit on the sidelines and watch the Democratic Party try to pass the most radical abortion law in the history of the country, you’re pointing to the wrong guy.”

Watters remained skeptical.

“No one’s saying you need to sit on the sidelines, but yesterday wasn’t the day to do that,” he responded. “Yesterday was the day we lost all momentum when this inflation thing punched them right in the face and you gave them an out. A lot of people don’t like that. You could’ve done it on any other day.”

But Graham is apparently allergic to common sense and did not agree with Watters.

“So, I take issue,” he fired back. “I don’t think there’s a bad day to stand up for the unborn. What am I trying to say? That America needs to have a policy that makes us a civilized nation.”

Watters again referenced Tuesday’s stock market crash.

“This is terrible timing, terrible tactics,” Watters told the senator. “We could’ve shoved this down their throat on the day Americans got hammered with this inflation number and the market crashing. And now all the media and the Democrats are talking about is federal abortion ban, federal abortion ban. You know that’s not smart politics, right?”

Graham retorted that Americans are already aware that “inflation is out of control.”

“I’m just saying you’re getting a lot of heat for the timing of that,” the Fox News host stated once again.

“I can stand the heat,” the senator responded.

So Watters ended the segment by telling Graham, “I respect your opinion. Like I said, timing was off and timing is everything. Senator, thank you so much.”

“Tell that to the baby,” Graham retorted.

“I hear you,” Watters responded. “I’m just talking raw politics.”

Graham’s chilly reception at Fox News was definitely echoed by his fellow Republicans. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) responded by echoing one of the GOP’s chief talking points: that the abortion issue should be handled by individual states. And Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) responded that Graham is on his own here.

“That wasn’t a conference decision,” he told Politico. “It was an individual senator’s decision.

As I wrap this up, I’m going to give you a few particulars about Graham’s abortion measure — it calls for the outlawing of most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, Insider reports. At a press conference Tuesday, he said that the bill only includes exceptions for rape or incest, or if the life of the mother is endangered.

I don’t support this measure in the least but I’m happy Graham pulled this rabbit out of his hat (did you think I was going to write something else). This has turned into political dynamite and the Republicans have been blown out of the water.

It couldn’t happen to a better group of people.
