Karl Rove Says Trump Stealing Classified Documents is Very Bad for the GOP and the Midterms

During an interview on Fox News Tuesday night, Karl Rove said Donald Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents has put the GOP in a sticky situation as the midterms loom.

Instead of being able to focus on issues of the day — like economics, immigration, or crime, Rove said Republicans find themselves having to defend the former president.

Appearing on Your World with host Neil Cavuto, Rove, the GOP strategist who was the architect of former President George W. Bush’s White House victory said the last four weeks have been a huge win for Democrats, Mediaite reports.

“Since the search on August 8, what have we been talking about? We are now shy of one month of talking about this issue,” Rove told Cavuto. “If you’re a Democrat, you love it because Republicans are forced to talk about Trump taking classified documents to Mar-a-Lago.”

It’s a relief, in fact, because it’s shut them up about abortion, “grooming children,” “the border” and anything else having to do with the rights of women, immigrants, or LGBTQ people. It’s a bit of a breather.

Rove, who for some reason, Bush liked to call “turd blossom,” (and no, I don’t know why), also voiced concerns that a judge’s decision to grant Trump a special master may also trip up Republicans in November. He believes this is merely going to drag things out.

“To Republicans, it is also an advantage to not talk about this particular issue but instead talk about the things people are talking about around the kitchen,” he said. “Mainly, how to keep up with the rising prices, how good is the economy going to be and what is known about the border and crime in the neighborhoods and communities.”

Cavuto noted that this isn’t the first time Trump has attacked Rove over his opinions about the raid at Mar-a-Lago.

“Yeah, look and I understand the angst he feels, and how strongly he feels about this, but this is a situation largely of his own creation,” Rove said. “He should not have taken those documents.”

“People are not going to vote Republican in order to affirm President Trump’s view of what those documents were.”

Anything that keeps Republicans off the issues is good news to me. Since the majority of them seem to want to drag the country back tot he 1950s I say now is as good as any time for them to shut the hell up.
