‘Made My Heart Sink’: Glenn Kirschner Says the Empty Classified Folders Found at Mar-a-Lago are an ‘Ominous Sign’

MSNBC’s legal analyst Glenn Kirschner developed a sickening feeling and said his “heart sank” as he read over the list of materials the FBI obtained during the raid on Mar-a-Lago. A federal judge unsealed that list Friday, and what’s really disturbing here is that among the contents revealed are 48 empty folders that are marked classified.

In an interview with MSNBC’s Yasmin Vossoughian, Kirschner said the empty folders are an “ominous sign,” Mediaite reports.

“I saw something that made my heart sink when I saw that there were many, many folders, empty folders labeled ‘classified’ with classified banners or labeled staff secretary, military aid and they were supposed to be returned to these people,” Kirschner said.

He also suggested the classified folders were probably not empty when they departed the White House with Trump.

“Do we really think Donald Trump personally or had his aides pack up empty folders that should have contained classified materials?” Kirschner, a former federal prosecutor asked.

This led Vossoughian to ask Kirschner if he believed there may be classified documents out there that weren’t retrieved by the FBI during the raid of Trump’s Palm Beach home.

“That is my fear, Yasmin. When you have dozens of folders should have classified documents. I’m sure the Department of Justice will try to piece together what classified documents should have been in those folders,” he said. But he also added, however, that Trump could have given the classified materials to someone else or done something nefarious with them to ‘further damage our national security.'”

Trump has been accused of illegally storing and transporting classified materials from the White House, per Mediaite. As is typical of Trump, he continues to claim he’s not done anything wrong and that he has declassified materials and keeps calling the investigation a “witch hunt” that’s motivated by politics.

But that’s classic Trump. It’s never his fault. Everyone else is to blame. Even though none of this would have happened if he’d simply done what he was supposed to do.

I’ve included this tweet from Kirschner.
